I got a knee to the balls, once at a judo practice. I was on the floor for ten minutes, unable to speak. Another time, playing double ping pong, my partner hit me with his racket above the eye. Didn't feel anything after a few seconds, but they rushed me to the hospital because my shirt was soaked through with blood. Morality : my body is sending a clear message it would much rather die of blood loss than get kicked in the balls once.
I still think getting hit in the balls is funny, though.

I knew this would be at the top of /r/MensRights as soon as I read it
[+]sidwood -14 points-13 points-12 points 14 years ago* (48 children) | Copy Link
EDIT: Why is this being downvoted? I thought /r/mensrights was better than /r/feminism when it came to downvoting relevant discussion.
Just wanted to mention that the ol' cunt punt has the potential to be much more dangerous than a shot in the pills. The lack of external genitalia on women means that the pubic bone is much closer to the surface, making this sort of attack much more likely to break the pelvis than a similar attack on a man where a lot of the force is being absorbed by the meat & two veg. A broken pelvis is the most life-threatening fracture a human being can sustain; even more so than a broken back, skull, or femur.
So don't go kicking anyone between the legs, you could literally kill them!
themoreyouknow.jpg
EDIT 2: In case you're under the impression that I'm saying a) men can't get their pelvises broken, b) men can't die from testicular trauma, or c) the risk of pelvic fracture makes kicking a woman in the crotch more dangerous overall than kicking a man in the crotch, I would suggest reading my comment again. Very slowly if necessary. If reading is hard for you, ask an adult to read it for you.
[–]YouKnowThatGuyWeKnow 22 points23 points24 points 14 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link
You're going to have to kick someone pretty hard to break their pelvis..
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 14 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link
I'm not even convinced this is physically possible.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
It is. You just have to train with grade A martial artists for a few years.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
And it is effective only against women?
[+]sidwood -6 points-5 points-4 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Who said that? All that was said was that it's easier to break a woman's pelvis than a man's.
[–]kragshot 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That is incorrect.
A woman's pelvic bone/cradle is far more durable and flexible than a mans because it has to expand and contract during pregnancy to support the growth of a child.
I kind of have to support this idea. There is a reason why they sell cups for women. A kick down there on a woman is about as debilitating to them as it is for men.
[–]sidwood -4 points-3 points-2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
While I have no doubt that martial arts training would make someone more capable of breaking bones, I don't think it's fair to say it's impossible without it. All it takes is for the right spot to be hit with sufficient force.
Also, as I mentioned elsewhere, an actual fracture isn't even required for massive hemmoraghing, bladder rupture, etc.
[+]sidwood -9 points-8 points-7 points 14 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
Well, it is. It's a very strong bone but when it breaks you have a greater-than-50-percent chance of dying from it.
EDIT: actually, the pelvis isn't even the most difficult bone to break; that would be the femur. Saw that happen during a little league football game, and I could hear it from the other side of the field. Sounded like the snap a large tree makes before falling.
[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 14 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Find some examples of women dying from a fracture pelvis after being kicked in the vagina, and I'll consider what you're saying.
It takes a of force to break someone's pelvis, and I strongly suspect the bones in the foot and ankle would more likely break before a pelvis does.
[+]sidwood -7 points-6 points-5 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I have no doubt that cases of this are very rare (most pelvic fractures in the non-elderly are the result of things like motorcycle accidents) but the risk is there.
I couldn't find any reliable articles about women dying from a pelvis broken as the result of an assault (I'm sure they're out there if you really want to do the research, but I'm on a phone and don't have time to do anything more than a cursory search) but I did find the story of Abdul Wali, an Afghan detainee who died after taking a kick to the crotch that lifted him off the ground. Did the US soldier who kicked him also break their toe/ankle? Maybe. Has a woman ever sustained an injury like Abdul Wali? Certainly.
Pelvic fractures can easily cause organs to rupture, leading to sepsis. The area around the pelvis is also extremely vascular and there's a big risk of bleeding out internally even if the pelvis isn't fractured. I'm not sure why you're so skeptical of this, it's basic anatomy.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm skeptical because you are claiming that women are more at risk from a kick to the crotch because it might break their pelvis, when it seems very, very unlikely that that would ever happen.
[+]sidwood -6 points-5 points-4 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
All I'm saying is that the way things are shaped down there makes a fracture more likely, not to mention that women have lower bone density on average. Pelvic fractures are still rare, but the risk is there, which was all I said.
I'm not really seeing why this is controversial. Unless /r/mensrights suffers from the exact same mindless groupthink as /r/feminism.
[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's just a ludicrous assertion.
And you can't even find a single example of it happening.
[–]sidwood -5 points-4 points-3 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Again, my search results are full of car accidents, motorcycle accidents, and old people falling over, even when I specify "assault." Then there's a bunch of results that are pulling in text ads for kegel exercises. I'm on a phone so I'm really not interested in going through these one by one because your dumb ass doesn't believe that a human being is capable of breaking another human being's pelvis.
I'm fucking done with this. I hope someone breaks your pelvis and pops both balls with a steel-toed boot.
[+]sidwood -14 points-13 points-12 points 14 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Again, you have to kick less hard to do it when you're kicking someone in the roast beef curtains compared to the twig n' plums. Just laying out the facts; there's a risk of it for both genders, but the risk is worse for women. No one should be kicking anyone where the sun don't shine.

[–]Embogenous 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link
but the risk is worse for women.
Except you can die from being kicked in the balls.
Here's *some cases (some of them are different). I read an article the other day about "sack tapping" - it had something like 40 cases of boys needing to be hospitalized, and 7 died (these numbers may be way off, I can't even find the article. It shocked me with how high they were, though).
I would conclude from this that, if kicked in the crotch, the chances of dying from a testicular injury are greater than the chances of your pelvis shattering.
[–]sidwood -4 points-3 points-2 points 14 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That may be the case but I was talking specifically about pelvic injury. I didn't at all mean to start yet another Oppression Olympics event.
[–]Embogenous 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That may be the case but I was talking specifically about pelvic injury.
So when you said "Just laying out the facts; there's a risk of it for both genders, but the risk is worse for women.", you meant specifically that the risk of a broken pelvis is greater for women? Should have specified.
You said
Just wanted to mention that the ol' cunt punt has the potential to be much more dangerous than a shot in the pills.
Which isn't true; the greatest danger for either gender is death, and the chances of said danger occuring is greater for men.
I didn't at all mean to start yet another Oppression Olympics event.
It's not that at all.
Except I did specify exactly that. I'll leave this here for you to beat up on.
[–]Embogenous 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Except I did specify exactly that.
...Not in that specific post.
Okay, you were talking about how dangerous a potential broken pelvis is. Now, in your initial post, you said that a kick "has the potential to be much more dangerous" for a woman than a man. I hence assumed that you were unaware of the greater risk of death from testicular injury, which would explain that comment. I haven't seen you say that your earlier comment was mistaken and only one type of injury is more dangerous, but it's more dangerous for men overall.
I'm not strawmanning you because I'm addressing the initial argument that you stated and that I haven't seen you change.
The "context" button is there for a reason. Quit being pedantic, it's really tiresome. I never said getting kicked in the crotch is worse for women overall, I only said that women have a greater risk of getting their pelvises broken.
Anything beyond that is something you're reading into it.
[–]Embogenous 2 points3 points4 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I never said getting kicked in the crotch is worse for women overall, I only said that women have a greater risk of getting their pelvises broken.
In what way is that quote not saying that it's more dangerous for women?
Like I said, the greatest possible danger is dying. Kicking a woman does not have the potential to be more dangerous than that, and it's significantly less likely.
[–]sidwood -3 points-2 points-1 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Jeez, and they accuse feminists of being humorless.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A biology teacher (female) was actually really strict on crotch attacks at school (they were 'funny' so people used to do it for shits and giggles). She pointed out that there is a chance of making a guy infertile for life if you do that to him.
I guess its around that age (14-15) you begin to realise that you can actually fuck yourself, and other people up, permanently if you don't reign in the play violence a little. For guys anyway. I guess because girls of that age are less likely (I'm guessing?) to take part in play violence, they still think most of their violence is symbolic and unlikely to cause real harm?
I dunno. I just remember hurting someone pretty bad when I was around 14 and it made me feel terrible and I've never 'play fought' since then.
[–]iongantas 4 points5 points6 points 14 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You are being downvoted because a guy being kicked in the balls could potentially sterilize him or cause other long term complications. In fact, it is just as likely if not more so that he could die from such an attack (pelvis shattering force) due to hemorrhaging.
[–]ThenThereWasReddit -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, sidwood was downvoted because it was at all suggested that women could also be terribly injured by this type of violence. Nowhere was it at all said that it was in any way remotely ok to kick a guy in the nuts. In fact, nothing against men was said at all. Sidwood was simply stating that we should realize that it hurts everyone, men and women. Which is exactly the kind of information we should be upvoting the shit out of.
I realize that everyone here has already decided that sidwood deserves all the downvotes, and so by supporting the sentiment he or she shared is to basically commit karma suicide, but fuck it, you gentlemen are being completely impulsive on this one. It was a legitimate point and I learned something from it.
I want so badly for this subreddit to not be this way.
You get it. Have an upvote.
[+]sidwood -6 points-5 points-4 points 14 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Where did I say that couldn't happen? I didn't think I had to mention something so obvious. I said that there was a higher potential for pelvic fractures in women than in men, and that is the only thing I said. People shouldn't put words in other people's mouths.
In fact, it is just as likely if not more so that he could die from such an attack (pelvis shattering force) due to hemorrhaging.
Not true. Again, the threshold of "pelvis shattering force" is lower for women since their pubic bones are closer to the surface than men's and women have lower bone density than men. Women are also much more vascular in the pelvic area due to the presence of the uterus (incidentally this is why women often have cold extremities!) so the risk of hemorrhaging is higher.
This isn't to ignore or downplay testicular injury, or to say "what about the womens", I'm just offering up information that most people don't think about when they talk about crotch shots.
You people are worse than /r/feminism sometimes. Talk about humorless victimhood.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm not saying you're wrong, but as a lifeguard I've been told 100 times that a femur is the most dangerous bone to break.
[–]sidwood -2 points-1 points0 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It may be true that a broken femur hurts more since major nerves run through it and it contains more marrow than any other bone. Since much more force is required to break it a broken femur would probably be more likely to be coupled with other injuries, too. I'm not sure.
Why I've always heard that the pelvis is the most dangerous bone to break is that it's basically a basket holding your vital organs. A fractured pelvis can easily rupture the bladder or colon, both of which will give you a nasty case of sepsis.
[–]Jazzeki 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
you are being down voted because you are not contributing anything worthwhille. heck even if we assume you are right despite all evidence being to the contary that would only properly JUSTIFY the point of the comic. in the end it's about how these woemn belive they should be alowed to do serious harm to men they disagree with so presumably men should be alowed to do the same.
[–]sidwood 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't know where you're getting the idea that I'm opposed to "the point of the comic." Once again: the only thing I said was that blunt force to the crotch is more likely to break the pelvis of a woman than that of a man. I make no claims beyond that.
Are you illiterate or what?
[–]Phrodo_00 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think you're overestimating the strength of cock. If you're hitting with enough force to break a pelvis I don't thing a bit of spongy tisue would help.
It might not help much, but that plus men's higher bone density could be the difference between a nasty bruise and full-blown sepsis eating your insides out.
Well, I tried to offer something interesting to the discussion but I guess the hivemind has decided that it's impossible to break someone's pelvis with a kick to the crotch. Later, motherfuckers.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Well that was interesting link. But nevertheless, I somewhat agree with you. The risk for women's pelvic bones to fracture from a kick is greater, but I don't think that the other people here that you are saying it is bad for men too. I think they're interpreting it as, "Only women are hurt from this, so it's ok when it happens to men." I would clear that up if I were you.
