There's a strong tendency oversimplify issues - citations of cases of inequality without appearing to really understand where they're sourced. The problem is, such cases only occur to accommodate long-standing social norms in dire need of change, and that fact is often going unnoticed in this subreddit.
I often see attempts to attack the symptom while remaining wholly ignorant of the disease, symptoms which, more often than not, only occur as an accessory to a greater issue of gender inequality.
Custody issues and divorce assets, for example, stem from the old-fashioned view that women are intended to be domestic caretakers, and marginalization of 'female rapists' comes from the laudable nature of male sexuality and the shameful stigma of female sexuality. The leniency towards false accusations of rape occurs for the same reason - the shame experienced by victims of rape and domestic abuse causes a considerable number of cases to go unreported, and stern prosecution of false accusations will only cause the real victims to be even more hesitant to come forward.
Education discrimination exists to combat traditional gender roles. It takes a long-sighted view of social change; affording women greater opportunity now, and producing strong female role models and saturating positions that have historically gone unoccupied by women creates the possibility that in the future, conscious measures towards enforcing diversity will no longer be necessary. I feel we've already made great strides in this regard over the past century as well, and attempting to reverse them when inequality still exists will do more harm than good.
I see a good confirmation bias here, and a tendency to cite relatively unusual cases as a need towards greater legal reform - when such legal reform would only serve to further discriminate against women, when nothing is being done to alter their status in society. Inequality is never a case of 'us vs. them' - male and female gender roles are constructed to complement each other, and they both must be abolished to effect real change.
Don't like custody discrimination? Become a stay-at-home dad, and encourage others to do the same. Become a trailblazer for responsible parenting by the father.
Sick of vilification and false accusations? Help abolish the concepts of 'sluts' and 'whores'. Fight against the shameful stigma of sex for women, and then society will no longer automatically view them as the victim.
Education discrimination? Encourage women to pursue careers in male-dominated fields, and one day it will no longer be necessary.
Discrimination and sexism always cuts both ways.
