What do you guys think of this? Wives wanting to apply for family credit cards WITHOUT husband's permission. Shouldn't the husband's permission be required if it's a family credit card?

I like how they're talking about misogyny when it's actually gender neutral - a stay-at-home dad or male homemaker would face the exact same issue.

I don't really see why you would object to requiring all parties who income you are declaring to sign off on it. If it's in your name or will affect your credit rating, it shouldn't be done without your permission. You may feel it's demeaning but I think it does serve a useful purpose and it's honestly not that big a deal.

I agree with this. The basis for giving out credit is an income, and if you want to use someone else's income for your own credit card, I don't see a problem with them cosigning. What's more, this isn't a gender issue at all, unless you choose to ignore all the wonderful stay-at-home dads who have great credit but no income, and so need their wives' permission to get a credit card.

Here's another injustice: not too long ago, my sister wanted to get a credit card. She was studying, only working part-time, so if she wanted to get approved for credit, she needed her parents to co-sign on it. But she was over 18, how awful of the system to patronize her in such a way and not allow her to list her "household income" to get that credit card, without her parents permission!

My ex racked up $30K in credit card debt because of this. She was able to use my income as "joint income" despite the fact she and I were separated and living apart. Lucky for me I'm not on the card in any way, so when her bankruptcy goes through in a few weeks my credit won't be affected.

Even if a spouse is working, in a community property state (and possibly others as well) both partners end up responsible for the financial activities of either, so both partners should be required to give permission for credit, and it should not be illegal to withhold permission.

How did we end up with a culture where women feel rightfully entitled to men's money like this? It's happening on a massive scale too with big government intervention on the behalf of women, redistributing men's wealth to women. One actually said this, wow. None of them brought up the fact that any debt they incur jointly their husband will be the one liable. Any debt that she incur in her own name she will be liable. In some divorce cases the husband have to pay for debts that she incur with her own name before they were even married.
