I disagree. I am sure that there are plenty of female firefighters, policemen etc that are just as fit as their male counterparts. Rather than discriminating pay over gender, somthing which one cannot control, why make the pay gap based on how they perform in simulations. This way women who do perform well get paid a lot, and men who perform badly get paid little. If the physical side to the tests makes it veer toward men likes this video suggests, well so be it, the competence of these important people should be placed above filling any quotas, male or female.

tldr; Pay people based on how well they do their jobs, regardless of gender.

What is the background of this?

Were those actual firefighters, were they actual candidates trying to pass the training exercises, were they random people doing it for a TV show, or what?

Male firefighters should not be paid more than female ones. That would mean that a woman who can pull the same weight as a man gets paid less because they give her advantages she doesn't use.

What should happen is that both men and women have to meet the same physical standards and there should be no quotas.

I've talked to more than a few firefighters and while they try to be polite they were annoyed by the lower bar set for female candidates. While understanding that women generally lack the same amount of muscle mass as a guy the issue is that they are needed to perform the same tasks. Women only have to be 1/3 as able as a man in firehouses.

tl;dr A lower bar is a disservice to all when it comes to fighting fires

Well that reeks of sensationalist crap. Go round up all the firefighters physically unfit for the job so we can see how many are actually puny young women and how many are fat old men.

This is not valid as this test is clearly primarily about body-weight, if they were kicking in an actual door that would have been different. A far better example can be found in the video of the female soldier who fails to kick in a door despite several attempts.

The pay grade should not be manipulated as the video suggests. The tests should always simply reflect the equality that is requested. The Air Force, for example, has a vast gap of PT requirements between women and men of the same age and height/weight. If you're going to complain about anything, complain about the inequality there, not the equality of pay.

I'm all for equal pay and equal opportunity, but there must also be equal standards and equal responsibilities.

Feminists love the first two but don't seem to care much for the last two.

As a paid ff this vid is rubbish. I work with several female FFs and just like the guys you get good ones and bad ones. Running into burning buildings is only one of the many other tasks we need to do. It's absolutly true most men are physically superior, FFing has always been a team sport though and honestly with modern tech and equipment the the playing field is getting more even. Give her the jaws of life and she will rip your car to shreds in minutes. Women also play a big role in our customer relations. They tend to have a more instinctual knack for patient empathy. Afaic it's a shame we don't have more working with us. For those that are here for the right reasons they make up for their physical limitations with other valuable advantages.

I also think it's ironic to lament on male disposability in our culture but then turn around and suggest the high danger jobs are male specialties. If women want to risk their lives for our society then that's one less man who has to do it out of obligation.

As someone once pointed out to me, there are some jobs that women can do in the police force that are better than men. For example, dealing with children (there maybe men who are just as good at dealing with children, but we should recognize that there are some children who simply respond better to women than to men).

I would think that the number of women hired in these jobs should be proportional to the number of positions they have to fulfill these roles.

If women want to balance out the numbers in dangerous jobs like firefighting, I think that is completely fair. The example they used is bodyweight based only and not particularly representative of an actual door. If they used a regular door, her training would come in as she would know how to break one down.

This makes me think of people saying men can't be teachers because they aren't paternal enough.
