If I ever wanted to get married, I know I'd have to go out and buy a damn diamond, and never question it. Diamonds symbolize eternity. How about a nice fossil instead? and I guess big diamonds are more eternal then small ones.

I think this is wrong. There are probably a lot of girls with poor boyfriends that can't afford a ring, so they are not expecting a good ring, and are conditioning themselves not to care about a ring as to avoid disappointed. Don't be a jerk, there are plenty of women who make sensible decisions about wedding rings. It was my idea to buy titanium bands for our wedding. We only spent a couple hundred dollars but our rings will last long after we're dust.
