In simple terms this is what I think has happened since 2014 or whatever. Man-hating feminists turned men away from the left so the alt-right pipeline happened. Many of these men realized the stupidity of their ways and have come back to the left only to realize the man-hating aspects of the left hasn't stopped. As long as the woke-left abandons all empathy for men conservatism will never be defeated in my opinion. We need male advocates now more than ever.

I like how the OP at one point has to clarify that "I didn't mean to say you can never criticize men as an entire group". Literally has to use the appeasement of "we're still terrible as a group, I promise!" in an attempt to convince women to stop harassing specifically gay men.

Why do you think they insult gay men? Because they think men are terrible as a group, and men as a group includes gay men. If you don't stand against all of it, you're just enabling them to eventually come after you. Same applies to men of color and trans men.

Honestly, I think that the kind of behaviour the guy in the thread refers to is a natural consequence of the way modern feminists use terminology and frame debate.

There has been so much effort put in to exclusion of men from discussion, and such a lack of introspection when we try to point out the harmful aspects of using terms like "patriarchy" and "toxic masculinity".

We kept trying to describe why it is harmful, and you still have subreddits like MensLib saying "if you understand the concept of toxic gas, you understand toxic masculinity". Which isn't necessarily false, but it doesn't stop the term from being so misunderstood and misused.

As we said it would, it lead to a decent portion of women saying that they hate men, men are rapists, kill all men, why would they want to associate with men, etc. We're ignored, told to only listen to the "real" feminists.

I think it is blatantly obvious that these misandrists would eventually turn their aim towards gay men and trans women. According to them men are toxic, men control society, men have never been oppressed, and the logical conclusion is that trans women should also be excluded in the same way men are, for they haven't gone through what "normal" women go through.

To be clear, I don't believe that, but it is the logical conclusion from the premise which the framing and terminology used by feminism encourages. I think that the guy writing the twitter thread has a few good points, but he's still sticking to calling everything wrong with the world "patriarchy".

I mean, if you're on Reddit, Twitter, or other spaces typically dominated by sexist women, it's obvious that you'll find this sort of hostility. Your best bet is to try to actually find communities specifically made to be safe for queer men.

I said this few weeks ago here on the topic of how left has failed its men and I'll say this again: As a gay man I have started to feel very disillusioned from the LGBT+ movement.

Queer/LGBT spaces are very toxic for men. Why do you think homonationalism is becoming an ever-growing trend nowadays? Gay men get gaslighted in these hyper woke spaces, neolib women and women identifying people think their ideology is supreme, all these anime pfp femcels are peak neolib or extremist queercel. The trans community also doesn't care about trans men, it's always how much of a victim the trans woman is or transmisogyny and never any discourse about the trans man or transmisandry. Even political parties like PSOE in Spain dropping the G from LGBT for "LBT pride celebrations". Give a few more years and the G will be entirely kicked out from LGBT and honestly this may be a blessing in disguise because then gays don't have to cater to delusional idpol obsessed freaks.

I don't know why, but it seems like so many of those people shitting on gay men in that Twitter thread seem to be K-Pop stans (going by their profile pictures).

Which makes me think that many of the people shitting on gay men, at least in that thread, seem to either be young teenagers or extremely immature adults.

I gave the thread a read; it all seems like pretty bog-standard Tumblr white-lib feminism to me - that is to say, 100% oppression olympics, zero-sum thinking, inchoate racial dynamics, trans men left as an afterthought at best, etc. sort of shit.

I think the mistreatment of men in the LGBT "community" goes well beyond the online environment. I have volunteered at an LGBT community archives in Canada for many years. Historically, we have been a volunteer-driven organization, and in many ways still are. But in the last six years we have had funding for staff positions. In the past six years there have been at about 27 advertised positions, 90% of which have gone to women, mostly straight women. Moreover, among the "best" positions (i.e. full-time and/or multi-year contracts) none have gone to men. To add insult to injury, the funding for this organization has historically and presently come from gay men. Basically, we are paying for our own inquisition.

I would be very interested in hearing whether others have experienced a similar situation.

One issue I've noticed among some (but certainly not all) gay men is that, since they are not personally affected by the rather destructive developments in heterosexual dating and relationships in recent decades, they can be very willing to vigorously defend radical feminist dogma (since they get woke points and their own romantic lives remain untouched while havoc is wrought on those of straight men).

On the other hand, since gay men for obvious reasons have less of an incentive in receiving women's approval, I think they can easily go the other way and enthusiastically support men's solidarity.

Personally, I want to see solidarity between straight men and gay men, and I am strongly against tradcon lines of thought in the manosphere that treat gay men as somehow less of men than straight men.

I'll just say that this tweet gaining traction makes me somewhat more optimistic, since it shows that a huge portion of people on the left are willing to listen and ultimately won't stand for misandry.
