Well, that's sadly all you can do. Dr. Farrell has even stated that #BoysLivesMatter is something we should focus on. For whatever reason or other, when a black dude is killed by police or criminals, the boy part is practically invisible to us. How often are women killed by excessive police use-of-force?

I think we should tread carefully here, and make sure this discussion is centered around PoC who are also men and not men who are also PoC, if that makes sense. In other words, we should focus on adding on to the discussion rather and think twice to make sure that we're not hijacking it or appropriating it. It's true that the kind of violence that makes the news is the sort that is inflicted on men, but racism also makes WoC vulnerable to violence due to that violence's tendency to not make the news.

That said, I would add on to this that the gender disparity in arrest, conviction, and sentencing is even greater than the racial one, yet feminists do not seem to consider this an example of female privilege, despite the racial gap being frequently held up as an example of white privilege. The claim that it's not privilege because "men decided it should be that way" chauvinistically erases the agency of both female jurors - who will make up 50% of any non-biased jury pool, whereas black jurors will average 13% and are also more likely to be systematically eliminated from the pool by prosecutors - and the women who push these gender stereotypes on their male children.[1][2]

If you're a criminal defendant, it may help—a lot—to be a woman. At least, that's what Prof. Sonja Starr's research on federal criminal cases suggests. Prof. Starr's recent paper, "Estimating Gender Disparities in Federal Criminal Cases," looks closely at a large dataset of federal cases, and reveals some significant findings. After controlling for the arrest offense, criminal history, and other prior characteristics, "men receive 63% longer sentences on average than women do," and "[w]omen are…twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted." This gender gap is about six times as large as the racial disparity that Prof. Starr found in another recent paper.

I think getting this drawn into identity is the greatest flaw of the movement that has come out of this. There is no evidence race or gender were factors in the murder and even if it were a larger movement should be focused on the significant flaws many law enforcement departments have for citizens of all races and genders as evidenced clearly by their actions against those taking part in peaceful protests and statistics which show terrible police treatment generally. Police in many cases enforce and control the populace not protect and serve and have an us and them mentality which leads to bad outcomes for far too many.

A reform of the police and justice system in the US is badly needed, not just for black people or men but for all. This should be a cause everyone can get behind without it devolving into identity politics which brings out the worse of the extremes on both sides.

If there is an identity aspect to be focused on then it is wealth inequality which drives almost all of the scenarios that lead to crime and police behaviour being allowed to continue on such an appalling manner as a response to it.

I’d say focus on the issue that’s important to you and don’t try to gatekeep or argue that your issue is the most important one or more important than someone elses. If you want to advocate to end police violence against men that’s great, march with BLM and others who are protesting police brutality as well. It doesn’t have to be a contest and you don’t have to get into arguments but you shoukd be aware that black men in particular are more at risk than men in general and that for some people race is the driver not gender.

It would be intellectually honest to also mention this one demographic commits a massively disproportionate amount of crime and is much more likely to be combative/non-cooperative with the police, many times with the specific intention of provoking a response.
