There are quite a few perks to a business being woman owned.

Women owned businesses are guaranteed a certain percentage of federal contracts. (its a small percentage)

Most federal agencies are required to have two pools to draw money from. One pool for women-owned and other "historically disadvantaged" minorities and one for everyone. Women's applications are not denied until both pools are empty. (it is NOT a small pool)

Many municipalities and some states have tax breaks for women-owned.

These are just the ones I know of because I started a business. I was flat out told if I put it in my wife's name it would be a cake-walk to get the govt to shoulder some of the costs.

I think if someone sat down and added up all the funds and services that are women-only it would really be quite staggering.... like angry-letter writingly so.

To some extent I might avoid businesses with this logo and therefore appreciate them being honest and admitting to being the virtue signallers they are. Depends what the options are I suppose. Other than that I don't really care.

A woman who starts a business has access to far more money and resources than a man who starts a business and yet there's no evidence to show that a woman who starts a business faces gendered challenges anywhere equal to the amount of benefit she would currently receive.

In the Canadian Charter, women are a protected class and so it's legal to discriminate against men.

Social programs and funding from non-profits should be needs-based, not gender (or race) based!

Upper middle class women who don't need to work but want to try a home business because they have the privilege of not being the primary breadwinner don't need public funds. You're just making the rich richer.

But that's neoliberalism for you.

Eh. At the end of the day, I still have to decide whether the product is something I actually want, regardless of who produces it. Actually, I'd question whether it really is "woman owned" or if this is just some sort of marketing ploy by the store to get me to buy the product since they may think that people like me might buy products that are owned and produced by women.

It's like in my neighborhood, which is predominantly Caribbean and West Indian, there is always a push to support black owned businesses and/or businesses owned by women of color. Which, the vast majority of the businesses are, so, in a way, I already am supporting some of them. I'm just doing it more from the angle of..."this business provides products and/or services I enjoy at prices I am willing to pay" versus "this business is run by a person of a specific ethnic/gender/sexual orientation background, hence, here's my money."

Women own about 40% of businesses in the USA, but employ only about 8% of the workforce - so women owned businesses are less common, and significantly smaller, than male owned businesses. I don't know if one can argue that it's unreasonable for them to highlight that, just as one highlights "Proudly Made in the USA" or "Employs Veterans" or whatever it is. There'd be no point highlighting those factors if they were the norm - like 'male-owned businesses' are.
