If your friend supports Black Lives Matter tell them it really means Black Men Lives Matter. And ask them why they noticed the race discrepancy but not the gender discrepancy in police shootings.

Right. There are tons more prejudice and negative stereotypes against Black people as a demographic in society than there is against females. Especially in certain areas, like the criminal justice system, where Black men are treated the worst, White men are treated a close second worse, then there's a big gap, and then there are women who are relatively coddled compared with men of any ethnicity

Black, White, and other ethnicity men get a lot more shit than women. The biggest disparity in privilege and social prejudice is along the lines of sex rather than ethnicity, and it favors females

And that's one more reason why the movement is needed. Five decades of gender studies, and somehow men's issues are still completely invisible to many people. Even the mere idea that such issues could exist is conceptually very difficult for many people.

It's almost as if those who have been steering (and continue to steer) the discourse on gender issues are intentionally sidelining men. The other option is that they're just woefully terrible at their jobs.

The obvious response there is that, like African Americans, men are also more likely to be shot to death by the police, be homeless, and get longer prison sentences for the same crime, than other groups.

Eh, kind of? In America, blacks make up about 13% of population though commit 52% so as long as that statistic stays true, that retarded criminal dogma isn't going to really go away. Some goes for a good number of prominent black figures being in the hip-hop community and in said community, connections with "The Hood" and gangsters are encouraged for some reason.

I mean, I think being a white female is objectively easier than being a black person. So, of course intersectional feminism is a thing, but in this context we're only talking about the male-female dichotomy.

For women who belong to other marginalized groups, it may be more clear-cut to say that men are privileged over them. But for white women like me, I don't think men are unilaterally privileged over us (the issue gets even stickier if we think about the men who belong to marginalized groups-is a black male really privileged over a white female simply by being a male?).

Historically,we've always behaved as if we have two genders. I'm fine with the whole spectrum thing we got going on now, but for most of human history we've understood there to be two genders. With only two genders, each group has had an effect on the other.

Men don't only affect women. Women affect men.

Women used to have less freedom. This meant men had more responsibility. (Now, women have more freedom, but men still have the responsibility to be providers-leading to financial objectification.)

Women HAD to stay home, but Men HAD to work.

Women are the caregivers by default. Men have to prove they are worthy of their own children.

There is no way for both genders to be set up in opposition to each other without each getting some benefits and some negative consequences.

I agree with your friend, in so much as I think men's rights is like 'white lives matter'. They are counter to common cultural myths, like that women get paid less than men due to sexism, not differences in hours, danger, field of study etc or black men get shot more by police officers due to racism and not inflated crime rates and increased interaction with police. I think it is really funny when people get 'red pilled' on one issue but for some reason don't draw parralels to similar issues. You got Bezos wife and you got Obama, Jay Z and Opra.

Maybe he's been exposed to MRAs who act like women's issues don't mean shit? That contributes to a lot of our bad PR. That and the men's rights movement's marriage to MAGA.
