Hey ladies, this is a reminder for me as well!
If you are following along the FDS handbook, surely you’ve gotten an idea of your standards and boundaries. If not, go get to journaling.
If you have, I am here to remind you to stick to those boundaries and standards you set. Even if people are trying to talk you out of them, you set them for a reason, and if any changes are to be made it should be by you alone for your highest good without outside influence.
Lately friends and coworkers keep commenting on my standards in a way that makes it seem like they are unreasonable. One of my standards is that I will not date a man with children. Many people try to say “some men are good fathers”, or it’s hard to find someone without “baggage” at my age, or how everyone “makes mistakes when they’re young”. I constantly was rethinking my standards due to these comments. But instead of feeling doubtful, I am sticking to them even more.
So I am here to remind you and myself that, no, you don’t need to change your standards. You have those specific standards for a reason, and if other people don’t get it, and instead try to talk you out of them, that’s their own problem or projections, and has nothing to do with you.
I have made it this far in life without children, and if I don’t want to date someone with them, that is entirely valid! Someone else’s “mistakes” and “baggage” are not something I have to accept in my life, especially when I have no interest in being a step mom or being second in my partners life to his children.
Stick to your truths, ladies! Don’t change your expectations unless it is what is best for your highest good, and not because someone else was wearing you down.
