It's the usual story where even though it takes two people to make a baby, it's always the man's fault if the girl got pregnant and he didn't want the baby, no matter the precautions he took. I've come to agree with the statement "he shouldn't be having sex if he didn't want her partner to get pregnant" not because it is right (because it's backwards as fuck), but because it saves men a lot of problems that cone from this double standard. It is definitely not be the best solution, but it works (for now)

In Alabama not only are the majority of pro-life voters women, but also the legislator (Ginny Shaver) that wrote the bill severely restricting abortions (twice, her first bill was rejected two years earlier) and the governor (Kay Ivey) that signed the law that didn't have a vetoproof majority.

USA

Women tend to be more represented in both the "ban abortions altogether" (large group) and the "it's a woman's right to choose a 39th week abortion without a good medical reason" (small group) camps.

Men tend to be more represented in the more middle of the road "I don't care" and "no restrictions in the first two trimesters and only for significant birth defects or significant risk to the mother in the third" camps.

I just don't care what women want anymore. I find it to be quite delusional to believe that men are seeking to control women's bodies when, in reality, most pro-lifers are women. I really couldn't care less about what a woman decides to do with her life/body.

If it's going to be applied to anyone (and I'd rather it wasn't) it must be applied to everyone equally. If it is used to deny men reproductive right, it should be used to deny women reproductive rights. Those women just provided the rational to remove their own abortion rights.

I live in TX, and actualyl live in Denton County, one of the most conservative counties in the country law wise, I can tell you from boots on the ground a LOT of women are more than kay with this law and want even stricter ones.

From my own, personal observations, it feels about 50/50. I should also mention the city In Denton Co. I live in IS Denton, a city with 3 colleges and the LGBTQ+ number 2 in TX (Austin being one) and I still run into a fucking shit ton of women who are on the "traditional family values" boat.

Feminism just flat out refuses that about half of the women here just flat out do not agree with them on many things, but they can't stop blaming men. And this is 100% why they make no progress at all, because they are creating teams intentionally instead of bringing people together. That's all senseless (and highly dishonest/inaccurate) blaming does, creates a divide. For example, I am pro-choice, all the way. But I will never, ever fight for abortion rights. Why? Not my body, right ladies? So why should I get up and help you if it's my fault, not our fault, you got pregnant? Why should I help if you put ALL the blame on me, and at the same time give me absolutely no say in fatherhood from a MUTUAL MISTAKE? I am just not going to help those selfish against me even with the same goal. It's like being in a position battle in a sport. You both want the same thing, not like you're going to tell the coach the other guy was better, you want to win. But that's the problem, this is life, not a fucking sport.

I spent my entire life being told "if you don't want a kid, have a vasectomy", so I did.

You should be able to choose when you become a parent. Men don't have that choice and that sucks. But taking that choice away from women doesn't help men. It hurts men.

Men that don't want to be parents are more likely to be forced into it if a woman misses the 6 week window.

So this is a step towards equality....by eroding the rights of women and hurting men in the process. Rights being taken away from women is not good at all. No one should be cheering for women to lose rights, especially because it hurts men in the process.

If you support the Texas abortion law because it makes it more 'equal' between men and women, you are supporting hurting men just so women have to suffer as men have. And that should be unacceptable to feminists and MRAs alike.

But,though people say that Texas bill is regressive,I tend to think it is progressive. We have enough women contraception now and demographic decline in the same time, so easy abortion should not be that easy now. Except obvious cases of rape, malformation, incest, medical cases, etc, ofc.

Though, I think that 6 weeks is too short term. 8-9 would be fine for obvious physiological reasons.

In most cultures, it is the men who enforce gender roles for men - and women for women. So for instance most of the pressure to wear burkhas come from the women in their family; and to protect, provide, and let your beard grow - from the men.

It would stand to reason, then, that much of the fervent pro-life advocacy would be driven by and supported by women. Yet the issue is often portrayed as one of men wanting to control womens bodies. Apart from religious convictions, I cannot possibly see why men would want to do that - apart of course from the issue of child support which could easily be resolved without resorting to tampering with abortion rights.

Am I right here? Then again, of course, many male conservatives do bring the issue up.

Just as a side note - and no offense to Americans and America, a country I like very much - what strikes us Europeans as bizarre is this: how on earth is this an issue that could be resolved through courts? Courts should decide on how to interpret principles; the legislature has to decide on what those principles should be by weighing opinion and trade-offs involved. In this case, the trade-offs are clear: human life versus bodily autonomy - so it should be a matter of the legislature to decide, not the courts. The reverse for gay marriage - the right to marriage can reasonably be derived from basic constitutional principles, and no real trade-offs are involved, so it could reasonably be decided in courts. Yet in the US, the opposite appears to be the case. In fact, the Texas law is bizarre in so many ways that it is clearly simply part of a game that aims to use civil litigation to push through political ideals. Obviously so....
