I never followed SATC and don’t understand the hatred against it other than that it portrayed successful professional women with great lives doing what they want and going through the standard BS we all do when out in the world as adults. That’s bad? Were the unrealistic parts really that tedious?! It’s a tv show it has to play up a bit of fantasy and glamour.

The show is more feminist than a lot of people think. The first 2 seasons alone contain a lot of FDS-style sentiments and sound bytes. I'd never seen the first 2 seasons until recently and I was expecting them to be very bad and out of date but I was pleasantly surprised.

I think that the show is not great for young women. I used to watch the reruns as a teen and it definitely did not help me with my development or self confidence.

I do appreciate it more in my late twenties though. I think that the friendships are realistic. I also think that the characters are supposed to be very flawed and are definitely not written as aspirational characters. It makes me happy to see women my age and older exploring life and sexuality together. Also the fashions!!

I will say that parts of it have definitely not aged well but overall it accomplished a lot for its time.
