Hi girls! This is purely an educational question. I like sexy times, and know I won’t be emotionally ready for marriage in the next couple of years while I get my finances in order.

I’ve been celibate for a year. I eventually want to date again next year, but I don’t think I’m ready for marriage yet. I plan to follow FDS rules and the handbook, but wasn’t sure what it was for those of us in this situation. I’m not opposed to marriage, btw, l just not ready for a super serious relationship.

Any recommendations? I will still wait at least 3 months for sex, will be private about what I want, and cut it off after 6 months tops if it’s not meant to be. I feel like I’m missing something, though. How are you guys navigating this aspect?

I don’t like to post a question without contributing, so here’s some flirting tips, or my Break the Ice + “K, thanks, byee!” moves:

-Go to the bar/counter next to him: ask for a napkin or some small favor, or ask him what he ordered. Then leave (physically walk away) or get busy elsewhere. If he doesn’t pursue you forget about him.

-Use him for something (a dance, lifting something heavy, etc) and then leave and/or get busy

-When waiting in line, mildly inconvenienced in a group, etc: “Bar Bathrooms amiright?” Then go back to phone, convo, etc. Don’t ever do the awkward “I’m available to talk” desperate eye-contact search

-The Drive-By: corrections, advice, jokes, etc.. while you’re walking by. Gotta make sure you keep walking tho! So he has to chase after you if he wants to talk to you. Use the drive-by compliment at your own peril.

-Most importantly, please stop looking around in bars/clubs/restaurants. When you enter a room, slowly look around with confidence and take it in-once. Do not walk in looking down! Then, if people walk in, it’s fine look at them!

Edit: Thank you guys for all your insightful comments! You gave me much to reflect on. To be clear, I don’t do casual. I simply mean non-marriage leading relationships for now because my standards are really specific and the men can’t meet them where I currently live. I won’t be able to have the lifestyle yet where I can meet the kind of guy I want (am in PhD at a place different from where I want to settle down). I would never use the word casual with a man, or explain myself. I am not interested in FWB or casual sex 🤮 I guess I wanted to know how to navigate “what are you looking for?” conversations if they bring it up. I’ll just lie and #WasteHisTime2021 #Yolo

In terms of the flirting tips, it was pointed out that we should never make the first move. I don’t consider this making the first move, but maybe I didn’t explain it well. It’s all about context, and if he knows you’re making a move you’re doing it wrong. Either way, thanks everyone for sharing. I took your comments to heart 💕💕
