You write that post according to what gets reported to the police only, right?

[–]BeanBodhi 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Currently the statistics are wrong and that’s why it’s so sad is because we can’t get a good actual picture on what’s happening if we can’t accurately report the statistics and because of the stigma around reporting anything and how the police handle domestic violence cases especially with men there’s no way to get an accurate report. And what’s sad is I know some men that are strong could defend them self if they want to but don’t because they don’t want to hurt someone and they get put in the situation and there’s no way out for them because they’re big and strong so how could they be abused. And I know it’s not as common for men to be victims but it is just as important. And I bet if we were able to accurately get the statistics domestic abuse would be 50-50. As well as rape. As long as both genders respect the other gender space to talk about things-let’s be honest the statistics don’t matter. It doesn’t matter how often it happens the fact that it happens alone it’s horrible

[–]BeanBodhi 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

That goes for all abuse!

[–]PigTenis 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Well, sexes are not treated equally when reporting on their abusers. This leads to difference in how severely are their cases under-reported.

I once argued with a feminist about that, found a nice study from UK showing that when anonymously questioned it turned out that women were more likely to perpetrate domestic violence (55% to 45% or something of this sort). Should I look for it after work?

[+]BeanBodhi -21 points-20 points-19 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Definitely because I’ve seen so many statistics on how men are more likely to perpetrate it in both male and female cases

[–]PigTenis 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

To be brief with sources I can give you quickly.

University of Florida - on patters within young people Link - be sure to read how its explained ("empowment"), we will need to compare that later to self-reports.Similar comments from left-winged Guardian (in their quoted studies - 55% male)

A study that explains the patterns and reasons - they are vastly different from men patterns and provide a good detox after reading articles above that explain the statistics with "maybe they retaliated against their abusers"

Note - article at the end points you to further studies. "Women self report physical violence as often as men" etc.

A big gap between self-reports and who gets arrested is a good indication on what crimes get under-reported more. At the end of the day - feminist organizations are using statistics of arrests to point the finger at men being inherently more violent. Those were the "many statistics" you have seen. Practically - sexes are more or less equal (yay equality).

[–]BeanBodhi -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I see. Honestly thank you by the way for giving me the source. Honestly I don’t feel like in these kind of situation statistics should matter. Because the fact that it happens to anybody is disgusting and it needs to be acknowledged. Now I know if a woman reports abuse she’s more likely to be believed. And men are more likely to not be believed. And that’s something we need to fix. But in both cases we have people who don’t take it seriously and people who can’t report it and honestly the fact that both sides don’t report as many as they need to just proves how big of an issue this is. Like I can see it being more of an issue for men as they’re not believed pretty much at all. But what I don’t understand is when people get caught up on statistics like when women or some feminists go to men spaces and go and tell them that happens to women more I don’t understand that it doesn’t matter who it happens to more you know

[–]PigTenis 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Honestly I don’t feel like in these kind of situation statistics should matter

They do matter because of organizations that for decades were teaching us that "domestic violence has a gender". Turns out it does not. To everyones surprise - men and women are equal in bad things too.

Its so ingrained in social psyche that we actually started to believe it. You believed it a few hours ago, before you saw the disparity between what is self-reported and what is reported to the police. This means they were successful.

Thats why statistics matter. To dispell this sexist belief that causes real harm, as you noticed - a man is fucked if he is a victim. A woman will be believed even if she turns out to be the perpetrator.

I don’t understand is when people get caught up on statistics like when women or some feminists go to men spaces and go and tell them that happens to women more

Some kind of revenge for our grandfathers perpetrating a belief that women are subhuman. Feminism achieved equality, instead of dismantling their activist structures, they simply started inventing fake inequalities to take privileges.

[+]BeanBodhi -9 points-8 points-7 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Women are always believed though. Most of the time especially in my personal experiences we are not believed. So while women do you get believed more than men it’s still not common to actually get any justice. And what I mean when I say I don’t think statistics matter I mean they shouldn’t matter. I mean it shouldn’t matter how many people of either gender are experiencing this it should just matter that people in general are. It matters because we do need to dismantle that sexist thinking that only women can be victims. Because that’s just completely wrong and that’s exactly why men don’t get there justice ever is because they don’t they aren’t believed. So yes in what you’re saying statistics do matter and dismantling it. But once it’s dismantled then we can start believing that men are victims I really don’t think people should be sitting there going over the statistics are this time is out of this times are how many men versus women are being abused. Because this kind of issue really should not be men versus women it should be people are being abused in her and we need to change it

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

We do not disagree women are sometimes treated unfairly but be thankful you are not a male victim of DV or a lesbian DV victim cause those have it far worse.

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are absolutely fucking disgusting if you were going to sit there and tell somebody to be thankful for that kind of situation

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh yes be thankful because instead of arresting the male that raped me I was told I shouldn’t report because they’re not gonna believe me. When calling the police on the guy that abused me I was told there’s no point in taking it to court because he wasn’t going to get any time. Definitely be thankful

[–]PigTenis 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I suppose everyone agrees abuse needs to be stopped. This is not whats debated here (and I hope no one debates that).

You asked about something entirely different, turned out to be opposite of what you claimed, now lets divert to statistics dont matter rhetoric? I think this subject is exhausted.

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No that is not at all what happened. If that’s what you wanna believe then you can continue believing a delusion. All I was saying and perhaps I worded it wrong was that honestly statistics don’t matter they shouldn’t matter we shouldn’t be playing that game of this happens to somebody more. We should be focusing on making sure all parties are believed when someone is being abused. So please don’t sit there and try to put words in my mouth and say I was doing something I wasn’t

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Honestly it’s not even feminism. Because there is not equality feminism is equality for both genders feminism is supposed to work towards dismantling double standards that affect men in a negative way it’s point is to work towards dismantling all double standards so that men can have complete freedom and soak in women. So it never truly achieved what it was actually supposed to. And I do believe most of the problems that feminism brings up our actual problems but the degree of which is a problem is almost always exaggerated. Like there is a wage gap and that’s wrong however on the flipside of it men don’t get maternity leave. But I don’t hear many feminists bringing up the fact that men don’t get maternity leave as they should. Maternity leave is important for both parents as both parents need to bond with the child. And the wage gap it doesn’t matter if someone’s a female or a male they can do the job just the same. So honestly everything still needs to be equaled out

[–]PigTenis 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly it’s not even feminism. Because there is not equality feminism is equality for both genders feminism

My sweet summer child, you need to read this sub more. Feminism USED to be about equality. Now it creates the double standards.

The activists were the ones that created an image of a male being the domestic abuser using fake statistics. Those activists were under a brand of womens-rights or equality.

You can see your actual problems that feminism brings up in my sources, vs whats self-reported by perpetrators.

Now, popular discourse created by activists turned out to be a lie. You bring up wage gap. Im afraid they lied to you about wage gap too.

They take all women and all men, then compare earnings. Obviously that does not align as there are different choices involved. Men are culturally more pressured to compete, take more risky jobs, work more. A man without status has trouble finding women - thats not changing anytime soon.

Not even feminists speak about wage gap anymore, this is how well it got debunked. Now they speak about "adjusted wage gap", that further fails once you look at adjustments. You take jobs in medical industry ? More men are heart surgeons, more women are pediatricians. Its not the fault of wage gap if both were given equal opportunities. Once adjusted for same positions, experience, certificates and hours - its almost entirely the same salary in western world (obviously its a different story in some countries)

Now, do you want to discuss other topics you were lied about ?

[–]BeanBodhi 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Buddy don’t call me a sweet summer child that’s kind of creepy. Weird not my thing. I know that’s what feminism is. New age feminism and feminist extremists are not what feminism is about. Guess what those statistics are not fake they are incomplete that’s different. When you have incomplete statistics they shouldn’t be used sadly they have been by people who think that that is the best way to educate people. But it’s simply just incomplete. It’s a true statistic it’s just incomplete. And no wage gap is a thing. I can see the wage gap in different places I’ve worked myself. I worked a night bake shift at a Dunkin’ Donuts and my male counterpart that did the same exact shift same exact time same exact amount we did the same exact everything made more than I did. There are multiple situations where men will make more at doing the same job then women. Yes men are pressured to do risk your jobs but men also harass women out of those workplaces when they try to do those jobs. A woman without status has a hard time finding of man. That’s not changing anytime soon. It’s not the fault of wage gap that women and men are harassed out of jobs. If a men were to work as a nurse other men would harass him for it. When women try to take construction jobs the men there nine times out of 10 will harass them out of the job. When women try to work as mechanics the men make them uncomfortable. In fact I went to a mechanic school for one day to check it out and see if I wanted to go and one of the things that they were telling the female students in the class was that whenever they graduate to contact the school in the school find them places where they will not be harassed because if they try to go look for a job themselves they will most likely be harassed out of their workplace. Wage gap exists because people cannot stop fucking harassing other people when they choose a job that’s outside the normal gender lines. So because of that people think that a certain person or a certain gender can’t do the job correctly. So they get paid less. That is the reality of the situation. Now in my experience personal as well as other personal experiences and that includes the experiences of male friends of mine men are the ones harassing other people out of the situation‘s. Now that’s not to say that women don’t do it as well because I have also experienced that. But in my own personal life and personal experiences and friend group that I have spoken with about it it has been men causing that issue. So when we dismantle gender rules and gender laws. That includes letting men dress in skirts and wear make up. That includes letting women do football and boys things and dress like boys and be dirty and messy. Once we dismantle the gender roles then it’ll become easier for people to be excepted in different workplaces and that will destroy any wage gap there is. If there is a wage gap after that then we have a problem. But currently it is gender roles and expecting certain genders to be certain things that are ruining it. And that’s something that the LGBT community has been trying to take apart so that people like me who are non-by Ineri or trans can be more excepted into society. And as somebody who does their own research for a lot of things I’m not being lied to. I am very well educated and that is why I’ll listen to other people when they give me statistics. It’s not being lied to so don’t be sarcastic like that.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Stalking figures, 97% of men who experienced stalking by intimate partner or exparner, exclusively had female perpetrators, whole over 2% had perpetrators of both sexes and less than 1% has only male perpetrators, this same figures are seen by other forms of abuse, let's not forget, about 6-9% of men are not heterosexual and over 4% have had affairs with other men, men are more likely to experience domestic violence in heterosexual couples.

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you! Honestly right now statistics can’t even be trusted because most of the time things are not being reported at an accurate rate to actually give a good decent view on what’s happening. But thank you for providing that!

“1 in 3 of victims of physical domestic abuse reported to police are men”

[–]Jolt_Ready_95 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Almost 0 out of the male victims of domestic violence are given support.

Almost all out of the male victims of domestic violence are made buffoons and laughed at.

[–]AndyBrown65 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Too true

[–]djb1983CanBoy 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The rest of the men also went to the police but they either got laughed out the door (toxic masculinity is appropriate here) or were arrested for domestic violence, or didnt go due to options a and b

[–]Maleficent-Life4799 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

A professor Elizabeth Bates at the university of Cumbria has produced papers on Male victims of domestic abuse, and the numbers were about 50/50 regarding Male and female victims. (Don't know how to post them on reddit)

Hi I'm not sure, I only read about Male victims of domestic abuse as I was a victim of domestic abuse.

Women are the worst

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wait wait wait,

The thing to remember and it applies to men and women, is that these stats are usually based upon official reports right? And those statistics only have value when someone has reported it.

So it could be, statically, even further, 1 in 10 could be men, or 4 in 10 could be women.

My point is, always take these stats as possibilities because I imagine it is much much worse than 1 in 3. Remember, women KNOW men get laughed at if they report anything. There was a guy in Bedworth? Maybe Nuneaton in the UK that was almost beaten to death by his girlfriend before someone took him seriously otherwise whenever he mentioned it people just laughed at him.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is worst than that, is a survey

[+]BeanBodhi -9 points-8 points-7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s most likely around 4/10 maybe more. One things for sure tho-statistically men will be the perpetrators more likely than women

[–]Phantombiceps 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is an argument that by far most victims are male. And most perpetrators are female. Given everything we know about:

-sex differences,

-child abuse stats,

-different ipv rates by sexuality ( gay men, lesbians, straight etc),

-likelihood to report,

reception of reports

-who controls choices in relationships

-who gets arrested if the perp is female/victim is male

the best guess is that IPV is majority female on anyone. That is why lesbians have the highest rates.

Public sphere violence particularly among strangers ( muggings, brawls, murders), is majority male on male. What is happening in IPV most likely, is men eventually defending themselves or restraining a violent woman get listed as the perp and that, plus massive underreporting reverse the real numbers.

[–]isleno 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men are likely more often abused by women than the other way around according to the largest study on Domestic Violence ever conducted.

In summary, 25% of relationships have some sort of violence. Half of those relationships had violence perpetrated by both partners against the other (M->F & F->M). The other half saw it from only one partner (M->F or F->M). Of this group, 70% OF THE VIOLENCE WAS COMMITTED BY THE FEMALE. The study then goes on to say, "...a woman’s perpetration of violence was the strongest predictor of her being a victim of partner violence."

I hold this study near and dear because it was the piece of information that convinced me to leave my abusive baby-mama. I knew I would eventually respond physically to one of her attacks and that would be the end of me. Our society has done all it can to convince boys that "it is never okay to hit a girl." For real incremental improvement in DV trends, we now must convince girls that it is never okay to hit boys.

[–]StudentOfTheTruth0 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is an underestimate. At least 43% are men but that is also and underestimate because men are practically barred by the law to report abuse as police will arrest them and they get indicted no matter the circumstances. Once having a police report even though they were the victims men are bound to lose their children, their money and their freedom. I think it is pretty safe to say that the majority of domestic violence victims are men as the law is always on the side of women no matter what.

[–]HerbertWestDeAnimate 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unfortunately I'm a statistic. Suffered psychological, emotionally and ultimately physical abuse from a histrionic narc girlfriend.

None of my friends would listen to me, when it happened in front of them they thought it was cute and funny. I was always made out to be the bad guy no matter how I tried to handle things.

Even in the end when I left she still twisted everything to make me out as the bad guy and I lost all those friends and got zero closure or comfort after being abused for two years.

To this day none of those"friends" showed a sliver of empathy or concern. Even after all the bullshit she fed to them after I walked away they never even reached out to see if both accounts were similar.

The woman I'm dating now showed more empathy and frankly outrage at what my ex did to me than any of those people. Guys who get abused by their SOs very rarely will see any support or care from people if abused. If I did even a fraction of the mental fuckery she did to me I'd have a literal army of women howling for my blood and balls but a guy comes to you a messed up saying his gf is doing messed up stuff and saying messed up stuff and they'll just come up with excuses for the behavior at worst and at best say something along the lines of "you're the man in the relationship, control it".

But controlling your partner is abuse, no? Or only if a man does it? Most men who have tried to talk about their abuse probably saw as little care as I did. I can see why most men won't bother talking about it.

[–]Beneficial-Log-9017 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am sorry for what you had to go through... hope you're doing well now

[–]Kaylarmagic 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow and that's just what is reported. I always felt that the abuse cases were probably on par for men and women. This kinda proves it.

[–]DraganTehPro 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Ignis_1 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The cropping is jist so funny

[–]SwamiSweatSocks 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know from personal experience women don't get reported. It's excusable supposedly because they're smaller, weaker so they can pretty much do what they want with impunity.

[+]LeatherDescription26 -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

So 2/3 are women?

Look I agree it’s fucked up but let’s try to avoid the same pitfalls feminism is still going down

[–]boringcarpets[S] 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Which is what? The resources for men are scant, and the male victims of DV are ignored at best. There are 2 websites for organisations detailed in the image, and 3 linked in the tweet; it's the very meaning of raising awareness, and signposting support. FOH with "let's try to avoid"

[–]BeanBodhi 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it is actually more likely closer to half instead of one and three

[+]BeanBodhi -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yes but if you’re going to raise awareness make sure you know all of the facts. While obviously females can fact abuse men it is more likely that a male is abusing a man or a woman and the statistic is actually probably higher than that instead of one and three it’s probably maybe four and 10 it could even be five out of 10 it just depends. While women are more likely to be the ones getting abused yes men do not have resources which they should

[–]GodBirb 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Well you said it yourself, ‘men do not have the resources that they should’.

Considering they make up 33% of domestic abuse victims, why are only 0.8% of shelters for men, compared to 99.2% for women?

[–]BeanBodhi 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Did you just choose not to read what I said or are you that stupid

[–]GodBirb 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Well sorry, I don’t know if English is your first language or not, but I couldn’t really follow what you were saying honestly. Re-reading it now I’m still not sure lol

You said that men are more likely to abuse women, which is fair enough, and then you started saying that the proportion of men getting abused should be higher? Are you saying that men are also abusing a lot of other men? If you are, that’s not particularly relevant (even if it’s true), since it makes no difference to the proportion of victims and the proportion of shelters available.

Sometimes I have an issue with explaining things the right way. Maybe that was it. I thought it was clear though but what I was trying to explain was when you raise awareness make sure he raise awareness with the right fax

[–]BeanBodhi 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So when you talk about abuse you have to acknowledge that men are more likely to be abusers than women are. You also have to acknowledge that the statistics are closer to 50-50 when it comes to abuse. And sadly on top of that yes you also have to acknowledge that women have most of the resources for abuse currently. That is probably because most of the time when women are being abused it will escalate to a violent manner as in that person will stock them and kill them. For men it’s less likely for them to be murdered in that array of events. For women being an abusive relationship is a death sentence. For men it is possible to survive and get out. Now in no way when I say that am I discrediting men’s experiences nor am I saying it’s worse for one than the other. I’m just saying you have to look at the situation and probably why it was set up like that in the first place. Nowadays we are going to need to spread out the resources. But sadly we don’t even have enough resources for the women. Let alone new resources for the men. So we honestly just need to do better as a society and getting resources for people who need them

Alright yeah you make a good point. I could definitely see women needing more immediate help against domestic abuse.

[–]BeanBodhi 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah-but it’s definitely needed for men. Especially if they have kids!

[–]BeanBodhi -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But what I think the person was saying is some people who are feminist I like to try to point out that it happens to women more. Although that is very disrespectful to say on a forum that is very clearly for men-Just remember when you post your awareness in a forum that can be for all peoples to clarify that your post is about men so that way when you get people who make that same comment you can tell them to screw off

No, that's like saying 'whatever percentage of women are never murdered by their spouses' to point out that the majority of women never face problems. People do care about the smaller percentage, so they are the center of the attention.

Do we care about the 2/3 of women here in the Men'a Rights sub? Yes. But it is a Mens Rights sub, so we focus on the men.

[–]LeatherDescription26 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah but when feminists say “1 in 5 homeless people are women” we rightly deride them for only ever caring and women and never men.

[–]hardturkeycider 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then either we need to recognize that they are only for women's rights (and hold them accountable to it), or we change our own mindset.

Edit: i see what you're saying and agree that it's important to hold ourselves accountable, too. Ignore the downvotes

I get your point, but it’s not to say that 1/3 are men as a way of pretending that men have it worse, but rather that the number of men that are victims of domestic abuse is nowhere near negligible.

Now compare 1/3 to 2/3 with 0.8% of domestic violence shelters being for men, and 99.2% being for women, and there’s your problem.

Agreed

I'm getting some "one in three homeless people are women" vibes lol. I'm not an expert here though so I'll leave y'all to discuss it.

But hardly any of this abuse is fatal.

Men do not get killed by the 100's. Men do not get raped. Ever.

Yeah I see where you’re coming from, but it’s not designed to say ‘men make up most domestic abuse cases’ because, quite simply, 1/3 < 2/3.

It’s instead saying that the number is not anywhere near negligible, so why are only 0.8% of domestic violence shelters for men? Hmm?

[+]simp_for_dio -15 points-14 points-13 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

So then...2 out of 3 are female? This looks like a stat to help fight domestic abuse against women

[–]KnickkNaxx 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Can we just appreciate the nice activism for mens basic rightsv

[–]simp_for_dio -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I can do that, it just seems like an odd stat, since it points out that women are disproportionately victims of domestic abuse, as opposed to men. Literally twice as much according to this stat. I am completely for mens rights activism, but it's just a weird stat to use

[–]KnickkNaxx 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see your point

[–]Skirt_Douglas 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess that makes it a “safe” to use statistic because it includes the implied “I know woman have it worse but…“

I wonder if it’s even true?
