Observing a man on how he treats you when you're sick or in a bad situation is the key to determining on if he has your best interests at heart.
Story time.
I was in NYC recently with a man that I have been dating. We did your usual NYC things, Broadway, restaurants, nightlife. Mainly, we were there for a techno event (which isn't his thing), but he found tickets to one of his favorite bands right before the first night of the techno event so all was good.
Edibles are legal in NYC, as they are in many other parts of the world. We thought it would be a wise idea to take edibles before the concert and first night of the event. I though the dosage would be the standard dosage I am used to in Canada, which is 5 mgs each. In no way am I promoting drug use, and this is an experience that other people might be able to relate to. My body does not react well to THC, and I should have known that.
Anyways, we take one edible gummy each and make our way to a gorgeous restaurant in Brooklyn he was hyped about. All is good, I didn't feel anything on the walk there. When we get there, we get seated and 20 minutes later, it's a whole other story.
I had the worst anxiety and sense of impending doom I have ever experienced in my entire life. Every negative thought that I could ever have kept rushing into my head at lightening speed. I was sitting in silence at the table now watching him eat, but I wanted to scream. I was having an absolute miserable time. I didn't even have the strength to tell him how I was feeling, but one look at me and he could tell I was having a terrible time. He pressed me to eat, but having one bite of the food made me almost choke on it.
I was in really bad shape. I had all these anxious thoughts and was on the verge of a panic attack. I notice that all the waitstaff are looking at me now, because I'm sitting at the table deathly silent at a high-end place while my boyfriend is enjoying his meal. He looks at me again and says "If you want to leave, we can leave. You look extremely uncomfortable and it hurts me to see you not enjoying yourself."
We were planning on seeing the band he paid tickets for immediately after dinner. He paid quite a bit for tickets for the both of us. I told him that I wanted to go back to the hotel on my own, I would be fine. I urged him to go to the concert on his own. I know how much he wanted to see this band, and all I would have done at the hotel is sleep off my greenout.
He refused. He insisted on going back to the hotel with me in Manhattan, and wanted to make sure I was safe. He didn't care that he was missing his concert. He didn't care that we were also missing the first day of the techno event (which was expensive). He wanted to make sure I was ok, and that was the most important thing for him.
We got back to the hotel and all was good. Again, I urged hm to go to his band and the techno event on his own, that it would be a waste of his money if he didn't. He refused. He said it doesn't matter what he ends up doing on the NYC trip, as long as he gets to be with me. Out of curosity too, he looked at the bag of edibles that he had purchased for us. To his surpise, each edible was 50 mgs of THC. That might be nothing for some people, for myself and my tolerance it was a lot when my standard dosage was 5 mg and I would feel that. He apologies profusely and blamed himself for not checking the package.
From that moment I realized that a man who truly cares about you and values you will look out for you when you're sick or in a bad situation. I've had men in the past that I was seeing that either scold me for being sick, or victim blame me. I had a man even get mad at me for getting roofied at a bar with him. He did not give a shit that I was sick. In fact, he took advantage of the situation and that's a whole other story.
A man who posesses empathy and great partner qualities is one who always values your health and well being over his own personal interests. Any other guy would have ditched me to go out to the concert on their own.
