Valentine’s Day Gifts if you’re in a relationship ?

Valentine's Day is a test for me to see whether you care more about 'being cool' hating shitty commerce rather than caring about your relationship. I therefore always at least celebrate it on a small scale.

I used to not care about Valentine's since I saw it as lovebombing, but now that I've seen pigs in the shape of men hate on it, I've decided to celebrate it out of spite for those people who'd rather ruin a relationship over it.

Teddies and hearts still make me want to barf, however. I've only ever really got my partner a small treat or cooked a special meal. They loved it.

This is my first valentine with my boyfriend. I haven't bought him anything but he's taking me on a valentine date. I don't put much importance on valentine day but I think it's a good way of vetting men. Some men say that valentine day is a commercial day (fair enough) and that romance should happen all year round (and I agree) but if you take a look the men who say this aren't even romantic the rest of the year. If you want to give something I wouldn't go all out. I'd maybe give a card or something simple like that and let him do and plan the rest.

When I did have someone and it was in the early stages (3 months plus) I would just buy him his favorite treat and homemade a little card I cut into the shape of a heart. It wasn't expensive and it didn't require roo much effort. For another guy that was also around the month mark, I got him his favorite whiskey (but a smaller bottle like half the size of the regular) and some shot glasses because he collected them (I do too lol) ... but with that one I was still a pickme and literally kept it in the trunk of my car more hidden. He was supposed to take me to this Valentines day dinner at this nice place and didn't make reservations... so we couldn't get in. Here it was the bait and switch... and we ended up settling for some dishusting hole in the wall pizza place. I should have just went home but I learned my lesson even back then. Because he baited and switched me and then he didn't have any gift for me, I kept the whiskey and shot glasses for myself - all worked out because I didn't mention I had a gift for him and was only gonna pull it out if he had taken me to the nice dinner and given me something.

Now don't bother giving ANYTHING unless you're in a committed relationship and it's 6 month or more... even then... small and simple!

I think how much effort he puts into valentine's day is related to what he does for you for the holidays.

If a man is celebratory for Christmas and goes all out and buys you something thoughtful and nice, the likelihood of him taking you out on a nice date and getting you a gift is high.

I expect an amazing date and a thoughtful gift, which thankfully, the man I've been vetting for half a year has done.

How long have you been dating prior to the relationship? Were you dating for 6 months, "together" for 3 months?

3 months - I'd get him nothing.

6 months - Still get him nothing

1 year - something small.

Valentine's day is once a year. I would expect that he'd do the gift giving. I wouldn't mind paying for a dessert or an outing. I'm hesitant to purchase a gift specifically intended for him. Yeah, no😂. But that's just me.

I think if you’re just a few months into the relationship it’s practical to give him something small but useful that you know he’ll like and a card. It’s sweet but not too much and doesn’t require much effort.

3 months - I wont get him anything

6 months - A very small cactus or pothos or anthurium that youve repotted in proper soil (something easy to care for) which is a good vetting tool imo to see if he'll create time for something I have given but in a very very micro scale. How hard is it to 😵💀 a cactus, especially for those w/o experience. You will see how much effort they will put into a 5 minute research on caring for something and actually doing it.

1 year - I get something personal and a card. If Im up to it I will ask him for help and we will make dinner together. A dish from my culture he will like so he wont have knowledge abd you will be the lead. Shows effort, willingness to learn, and teamwork. You will see how much he respects your dietary choices too. E.i. if you dont like spicy food and he insists its not true if its not spicy so he'll make the food spicy anyway. (Pickmeshia self rationalized that its good for me to train myself to eat spicy bcs eating spicy food is a personality i guess 🤡)

This not just applies to Valentines but other holidays too. If his excuse is hes not a good gift giver you can let him know you need something, Ive been having trouble with this, or a casual oh my **** broke lol will show if he pays attention. Its not everyone's forte but I loooove gift giving!

Under a year I’d get him a card. I’ve been with my boyfriend for a couple of years now, so Im giving him a small gift and a card. But we always make a point of spending quality time together like going out for the day or going for a nice dinner. This year he’s taking me out to my favourite restaurant.

For a relatively new relationship, Valentine’s Day could be nice dinner and flowers. If it’s 1+ years then that’s when gifts like jewelry come to play. I personally never got my ex anything for Valentine’s Day, the most I’ve done is put on sexy lingerie.

I didn’t get him anything and we had been dating for nine months but I got some French lingerie (really for him) a little toy, a book on a subject that really interests me and some diamonds.
