Prison and law reform puts women by the wayside.

In college, I ran with a left-leaning crowd and learned about rehabilitative justice, which seems like the "right" and humane thing to do. I still think that non-violent offenders should be placed in rehabilitative programs (for example, drug addicts would benefit more from harm reduction and from treatment). However, once you start applying rehabilitative justice across the board, it gets hairy. Especially for women. You can't rehabilitate a rapist. You can't teach him out of violence towards women. You can't make a predator not a predator. It's impossible. Assuming rehabilitative justice works on sex offenders leads to more dangerous situations for women. It makes women more vulnerable.

Sad thing is they prob did a rape kit, told the victim there wasn’t enough evidence/bruising/etc or that they think the prep has a “good argument” that it was consensual so they will choose not to prosecute, but hey, when we can catch you (the rape victim, who they likely did not help) because of the dna we took during one of your most vernerable moments, it’s A-OK!

Random disjointed thoughts:

I do NOT trust the police. At ALL. Too many cases of them "responding" to a call and murdering people's pets, or the people themselves , if they're "off their meds" . The Keith Vidal murder is one of the most egregious of those cases, and of course the murderer walked.

I was harassed in public in broad daylight by a POS in his policeman's uniform. Fucker followed me around in a store, making juuuuuust audible sex comments about me. I was 15, and I dressed like a 40 year old nun. Never told anyone ; regret that now.

I am aware of cases where cops have ARRESTED women who've reported rapes , when some dimwit cop decided she was "lying". I am unaware of any cases where people reporting victimization for any crime other than rape have been arrested for 'making a false report', but I would be unsurprised if such cases exist.

Apparently if you become aware of a crime and you try to report it, you may be subjected to a fucking pointless piece of mid century pseudoscience called the polygraph machine, even though its results are so known to untrustworthy that they're inadmissable in court. It's to "prove your trustworthiness". Fuck that.

After the horrible laws passed to help the police via the War on Crime, The War on Drugs, asset forfeiture, police militarization....The police are to be avoided if at all possible. Even for reporting thefts from being burgled, for insurance purposes. I once thought that at least it was necessary to call them to take a report, so insurance will reimburse a claim. I said so online, and I got hundreds of comments from people who had done just that, and who then had property left behind by the burglar taken "to process for fingerprints", and which was subsequently "lost".

Just one more reason why women are scared to come forward. Rape cases are already hard for the victims, now they have to worry about being implicated in a crime themselves.

When 23andme was super trendy when first coming out I was gifted a kit and I outright refused. I feel for women who trusted the system after being assaulted but this just goes to show that handing over your dna in any situation will come and bite you in the ass. If the chances of a prosecution/conviction are so damn low, is it even worth it to report? 💔
