Look at it the way you want, this is nothing but discrimination. Men are more likely to be victims of violent crimes, men are 80% more likey to be victims of homicide, even rape figures are almost 50/50 for young men. The gist behind this is to protect the so called "unequal" gender. While I advocate that women should always be allowed to feel safe no matter what, Australia's perpetuating of the stereotype that men=harasser and women=victim is horridly harmful for equality. I would advocate for a law that such drivers (regardless of gender) should have the right to refuse a passenger (regardless of gender) that causes them to feel unsafe. We live in a world with so many different genders and intersections and people are capable of being creepy and harassing regardless of their physical traits. Australia and the rest of the world need to wake tf up. Progressive my ass smh.

Uber is breaking refusal of service laws in Australia with this discriminatory policy and lawsuits can be brought against them.

Uber cannot refuse service to people due to race, sexual orientation, disability, AND sexual identity. Allowing female drivers to refuse male drivers on basis of biological sex constitutes discrimination and violation of this law.

I object to the double standard. Allow all drivers to discriminate on the basis of gender and I won't complain.

I have recently learnt that Uber Australia allows a person to cancel a request for transport within 5 minutes without penalty. This might be sufficient for a man to learn the gender of the driver and cancel if it's a woman.

Honestly the nature of taxi type transportation services sort of raises different questions when it comes to unfair discrimination based on crude heuristics. The driver has personal safety issues and the pickups and dropoffs are like 20x/day sometimes. This is quite different than something like filling out a job, rental or loan application where personal safety isnt much an issue, the long term consequences are far greater and there is every opportunity to investigate in to each person to be fair rather than simply going off statistics correlating with outward features.

Female uber drivers are not discriminated. And according to some comments here some of them have been even oppressors against male drivers because they have harassed them.

How can nobody cares if male drivers are bullied but the moment a female driver complains, such privileges and rules are brought on a silver plate and are punishing to half of the world for fuck sake?

When men using ubers start preferring male drivers and male drivers start getting higher wages, those women will have no reason to whine about being preferred less and being paid less, because they are the only responsible for that.
