What are some good hobby ideas to develop as a healthy man?

Martial arts are pretty good. I’ve been training kickboxing for a while now. MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, etc. are all good as well. I’ve improved my social skills through making friends with my training partners, it’s improved my cardio quite a bit, and being able to fight is a huge confidence boost. Plus it’s fun.

just try things out until something clicks! Cooking is a great one, eating good food everyday that you made is huge for self care. You can also cook for loved ones and girls which is a plus.

Don't think of this as a recommendation, but just something to maybe think about. I like to talk to random people and make new friends. For example, I live in a condo building, and when there was a fire alarm, I made new friends while everyone was evacuated downstairs. We then started to hang out and dine at each other's places, or even bring each other extra food that we cooked up. Along with finding a new hobby, just learning to be social could help as well.

Those types of hobbies will expand your life, boosting useful life skills and making you more attractive.

Hobbies like videogames are fun but mostly distractions.

Just try different things that his as many of these as possible. Martial Arts usually hits all three if youre in a gym, cooking/making art/working out hits the first two, but can include people.

Its cool to have some that just hits one (watching youtube gamers f.ex usually only hits nr1, and some socializing only hits nr3) as long as you also do some that hits multiple

Video games are a great hobby to meet women if you don’t pigeon hole yourself into a male dominated game.

There are games like Final Fantasy 14 and Guild Wars 2, where it seems like half the population are women.

And then for single player games that serve as conversion starters, there’s Sims, Minecraft, and almost every horror game is loaded with women fans. I’ve never played that Alice in Wonderland game, but I’ve met many women who love that stuff.

Photography, drawing, painting, sewing, reading and writing are also good hobbies with lots of women.

One thing I recommend is to have at least one production hobby.

There are two kinds of hobbies. Consumer hobbies and production hobbies.

Consumer hobbies involve you consuming content and cannot sustain itself alone (you have to rely on other’s content). Watching tv. Playing games. Reading books.

And production hobbies are hobbies that produce something you can share with the world. Making YouTube videos. Drawing. Photography. Writing stories.

After 10 years with a production hobby — you can look back and show off what you’ve accomplished. But if you devote 10 years to a consumer hobby (like watching tv) you got nothing to show for it.

So if you’re going in clean. Think of a production hobby that works for you. And then lean into it. Produce stuff and share it. People love that kind of stuff!

Make video games instead of just playing them. Even if you can't code, you can find some small group of people online and contribute in some ways.

Learn a musical instrument. Start a RAD BAND.

Really though, it sounds like you probably could use some outside hobbies too. I was (and still am, when my body allows it) into jogging. That's pretty solitary too though...

Any interest in photography? Can be an amazing way to see a lot of beautiful things. Obviously you need to ask for a lot of consent before doing things but it’s a great hobby

I just started disc golf. It's really fun and has a great community. It's really cheap, unlike regular golf, and a lot of the courses are in the middle of nowhere. Maybe use Google maps and see if a course is reasonably close by.

I think we need more radio amateurs (Hams). They can serve the community in emergencies and it’s a social thing as well, talking with people offline and at random locations. But it’s aging out badly because it has an image problem - “lame nerddom” (making stuff work) as opposed to “cool nerddom” (using stuff that already works).

There are many other possibilities of course. I like maker and builder cultures because they're useful, share skills, f**k around with consumerism, and can be remunerative.

There are also activities that go beyond hobbies, like hiking and biking. Just be awake to the experiences they offer, not just the gear and the miles and stuff. ("yeah, me and steve did 45 miles Sunday - hurt bad back at work. mmmrrrgh." this doesn't make me wanna join you for a spin along the trails.)

I’m going to try suggesting some more niche hobbies since others already stated some of the obvious ones.

If you like metal detecting, you might enjoy rock hunting! There’s also some groups you can join to learn more about them. It doesn’t require and expensive gear either (except maybe, eventually, a rock polisher). I’m not sure how accessible rock hunting is in Minnesota though.
Perhaps gardening? If there’s one in your area, you could help plant some stuff in a community garden and meet new people that way.
Not exactly a hobby, but if it’s financially feasible, dogs can be a great companion. I suggest starting with an adult dog though, as puppies can be very stressful. Additionally, if you have some dog parks in your area, you can meet new people there and work on your social skills.
Volunteering—again, not exactly a hobby, but it can definitely be very fulfilling. Even something like working at a soup kitchen can help broaden your perspective. Search and rescue is also awesome and just about everywhere has them. Oh! Or the animal shelter. Bonus points if you take a cute dog home. You can meet new people and help others, so double awesome.
Climbing! If possible, look for any local climbing gyms. You can meet new people and join any local groups. Bonus points because it’s a fun way to develop some serious arm/back muscles. One of my favorite hobbies
Reading clubs at a local library. It’ll help develop some more perspectives and introduce you to a new community
Sewing might take a while, but it’s super rewarding being able to create something
Carpentry! Try to look for a local apprenticeship, that way you’ll have access to the resources to pursue that hobby.
Writing! Then you could also find local writing groups and get feedback. Bonus points if you write any stories that integrates powerful women. You’ll be actively working on creating stuff while moving past redpill beliefs
Might not be available in your town, but if you can find a robotics club or group that’d be awesome. You don’t have to be a genius to join either, I’m sure plenty of groups would love to help teach someone the ropes.
Chess? It doesn’t involve a lot of talking, but it still involves other people, allowing you to slowly work towards socializing with others
Makeup! You can follow tutorials and express yourself creatively. Once again, going against stereotypes and gender roles. And no, you definitely don’t have to be gay to enjoy makeup as a man. Not every guy who enjoys makeup is James Charles lol
In the same token—skincare! You won’t be creating stuff, but there’s a big community of people who love skincare. Improve your skin and build meet new people. Win win
Suuuuuper niche, but apparently pretty fun: historical reenactment groups. I don’t know much about it, but I recently heard about it while visiting family in PA and apparently it’s pretty popular.
Pottery! You can buy either air dry clay or oven set clay online or in craft stores. Very fun, plus you can use the art you make.
Leather working can be fun, but I’m not sure how expensive it is. You can make wallets, book covers (thinking on it now, you could also make a hobby of making books with diy paper, covers, etc), belts… all sorts of stuff.
Wire sculpture. It’s super fun, I’ve made several presents for family members and it’s not too expensive either. A wire cutter, some tweezers, and copper wire are all you need.

Since people have been giving you good advice...what do you think about good old (pen + paper) penpalling? I know it is rather obsolete with internet ready at our fingertips, but around 10 years ago, I somehow become a penpal of a Japanese person who lived in a very small village near Okinawa.

You coming from a small town in Minnesota reminded me of that. There must be still enough people in the world who are interested in writing snail mails instead of emails.

Another more important thing is...are you happy with the town you are living in, or are you wishing for a bigger city to live in?

Congratulations on moving passed that! That’s massive. It takes a lot of growth, I think.

My general approach to choosing hobbies and skills goes something like this…

Pick something that: Gets you exposed to people you enjoy hanging out with Adds to something you already know so you can be really good in a general area Benefits you mentally, physically, or emotionally.

Metal detecting can be good because it gets you outside. I like ant keeping, myself.

You could also start going on trail hikes looking for unusual metal finds, or start going to yard sales/garage sales and developing your sense for what’s valuable and what’s not. From there, you could even start learning about archaeology or history and artifacts!

It’s always really fulfilling picking something you can get better and better at. Someone mentioned hiking. That’s a good one.

You said you like gaming though so what about archery? There’s skill and precision involved.

All of these are pretty solitary activities, so if you wanted to do something that serves a purpose and also gets you out of your shell, you could always volunteer. If you don’t really want to be around people, you could walk dogs for your local shelter. As a bonus, you could play Pokémon go at the same time, or other smart phone games that can be played while you walk.

I don’t know how old you are, but sometimes having a different job (or getting a job if you don’t have one) can be really, really good in terms of the “hobby” thing if you pick one that aligns with your interests. Then you can develop skills/learn your hobby while also getting paid.

For me, though, I got a night job so I have plenty of time to study. I plan on going back to college one day. That plan gives me direction & motivation, and I’ve learned a lot.

I study nutrition & neurology, and I’ve done a lot of personal challenges in terms of cold exposure, meditation, fasting, etc.

All of that stuff made a massive difference to my mood and the way I feel about my body. The more I felt like I had better things to offer, personally, the less I worried about my looks.
