This is from the Senior Consultant to the Department of Justice and Public Safety in my province regarding changing the gendered language in their resources and starting a resource for men! GNB is the Government of New Brunswick.

Hey, this is province! I saw GNB and automatically thought of NB. :)

I thought of Goliath National Bank from How I Met Your Mother, where Barney works.

Good on you!
Thank you!

Exhibit A for why we desperately need women to help with this shit. A woman is "very passionate and knowledgeable" (as I'm sure you are!) where a man would be mocked and dismissed. Thanks for fighting the good fight, Pink!

Any man can write and sign off as a woman though.
I hesitate to attribute /u/mypinksunglasses success to her gender. Look at the work she's done, most of it essentially anonymous.
I've been dismissed from these discussions because of my gender too so I know where you're coming from but I think this success is entirely a result of pink's hard work.
I know you didn't mean to diminish her work, fightorfreight, but I can see how it could be read as such and just wanted to make things clear.

That itself is a problem. Men should fight their own fights instead of relying on women because that will never going to work.
[β]FightOrFreight 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I never said otherwise. Men absolutely need to (and do) advocate for themselves, but I'll still celebrate any help we get from decent women.
[β]Better_Repeat29 points 4 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
'Relying' on women is not what's happening here, a woman is helping us and we appreciate that. We need women in the same way that women need men. u/FightOrFreight is absolutely right in that there are certain situations a woman would find it easier to be listened to, especially in the west, but the converse is also true of men in other situations.
I think it's very short sighted and honestly counter productive to think of mens' and womens' issues as so easily seperable; they are two sides of the same coin and we're not going to get anywhere if we obstinantely stick to worrying about 'our own side'. We do not have mutually exclusive interests and it is better that we work together to bring about a better world for everyone, rather than 'fight our own battles'.

u/FightOrFreight is absolutely right in that there are certain situations a woman would find it easier to be listened to
Why? because most men don't make any effort to speak in the first place.
I think it's very short sighted and honestly counter productive to think of mens' and womens' issues as so easily seperable
Where did I imply they are separate? There are magnitudes of more women interested in solving their issues than men are. If men are not interested in solving their issues, then women sure can't do anything. That is my point.
it is better that we work together to bring about a better world for everyone, rather than 'fight our own battles'.
Together or not. Unless men fight for their own rights, women can't do anything.
Purposefully misconstruing my point doesn't make it any less true. If you truly believe that men's rights can progress without the majority of men doing anything, then you are just delusional. Just look what had happened when men outsourced all the "fighting" to feminists, for the better part of last century.
[β]Zaronaxleft-wing male advocate 50 points51 points52 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
You're implying we aren't.
What the other person is implying, instead, is that no one gives a fuck if it's a men talking.
[+]Fearless-File-3625 -25 points-24 points-23 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Where did I imply men aren't? You made it up on your own.
The number of men who do is negligible.
[β]Zaronaxleft-wing male advocate 34 points35 points36 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Men should fight their own fights instead of relying on women
Right here.
Yeah, you know why? Because doing it paints a target on their back.
[+]Fearless-File-3625 -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
"Men should fight their own fights instead of relying on women" doesn't mean men don't.
Why? because not enough men do it.
[β]Zaronaxleft-wing male advocate 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Are you serious or are you just not aware of the social implications of fighting for it when the mainstream is 100% Feminism driven?
oesn't mean men don't.
It implies men don't. You're moving goalposts here.
[β]Fearless-File-3625 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
If enough men fight for their rights, who do you think is going stop them? and how?
No it doesn't. It means more men should fight for their rights not that no man does it.
Goalpost is not moved, you choose to not look at it.

I don't really believe in or want to live a life where I believe anyone should be on their own. Everyone who is in a vulnerable position needs allies, even if they come from other places. A lot of work toward the equality and protection of women has been done with the help of men and always was. Why abandon our brothers when we might be able to serve their good - and all of our good?

Flip the genders in your statement and see if it sounds right to you. You guys are really forgetting the whole, "It takes a village," moto.

No man is an island.
It's not relying on women; it's accepting the help of other human beings.
Human beings who want to help.

Congratulations. Just make a diary note for a follow up every three months to ensure something actually changes
Feels good, doesn't it? π
[β]mypinksunglasses[S] 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It does! And thank you, that is a good idea, I should keep track of who I talk to, when, when I need to follow up, and what has been said and still might need to be said
[β]DouglasMilnes 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you have done this all through email, you can just store it all in it's own folder, then all your diary entry needs is the name of the folder to go have a look at.
That's just a tip .. we all work in different ways.
Well done. And thanks.

Good work!
It is important to keep pushing for the changes you want to see. I suggest putting a reminder in your calendar for, say, 6-months from now to follow up.
If they've made changes, then thank them for it and offer to help them in the future. If they have not done anything, ask them to explain why, and offer to help.
Thank you! I'm definitely going to make a diary to keep track of these things

Very well done OP
at the same time I'm a very "I'll believe it when I see IRL results"and "actions speak way louder than words" person when it comes to NGOs, governments, and public figures making promises to constituents

Same but just not being dismissed and it moving up the ladder felt like a win haha Celebrate every win, right?

I just had very jaded experiences before, where they just say very vague platitudes just to get rid of you, or off their tails
I hope I'm wrong

I will definitely follow up with her so if she thinks she is rid of me she can THINK AGAIN

Awesome work. We need more people like you.
Do you have a copy or link to what you originally submitted? Seeing what has been successful helps others follow your lead.
Does this work?
