In that moronic blog entry from 2011, he was all about "choosing the path of least resistance" and encouraged men to shut up about the issues they face, because trying to address those problems is for "pussies". Real Men™ need to patronize women and treat them like they're irrational idiots, while keeping quiet and bottling up their own feelings. It's so manly! Give me a break.

Seems like this is what he's really suggesting here, too. "If your son is messed up, give up on him, there is nothing you can do, he will kill himself, and that's the best case scenario! It's hopeless I tell you, hopeless! Always!"

His stepson was 18. His life was just beginning. It's very, very hard for me to believe nothing could have helped him, but even if I grant that be true, he is, as I said already in some other comments, extrapolating that to millions of other people he doesn't even know. That's bullshit.

Boys need discipline, structure, and a moral authority figure.

My parents understood this, my grandparents, etc...

My son is 16. He is 6 foot tall and 180 pounds. He is also one of the sweetest kids you can find.

Part of that is his nature. Two years old if I gave him a cookie he would ask for a cookie to give his big sister.

If I told him it was the last one, he would break it in half.

We have kept him that boy because his mother and I have provided discipline, structure, and moral authority.

We haven't let him brood and bottle up his feelings. I lance that shit like a boil.

I am his dad. We will talk about things without judgement or scorn. I will help him make the right decisions.

Once again, he is 6 foot tall and 180 lbs at 16. He could do serious damage to someone. I knew he was going to be a big guy so I have been keeping him from marching down a dangerous path his whole life.

He doesn't bully, nor suffer bullies. He thinks about his actions and how they will affect others, he understands consequences.

I am Gen X. We were one of the first to not have dads around. Luckily for me my mom provided discipline, structure, and moral authority.

We have an epidemic, for lack of a better term, of boys with none of these things.

They either lack fathers in their life or the ones they have seem useless and neutered.

The parents drive to be forever young is fucking up their kids, both male and female. The results can just be more deadly when it is a boy.

His stepson is dead and he is comforting himself with the thought that nothing could possibly have been done, even theoretically, and maybe it's actually a good thing it happened. It's a coping mechanism, and he's willing to throw thousands and thousands of young men who absolutely could be helped under the bus to maintain his comfort fantasy.

Ironically the fact is that he himself is the one looking like someone with a disregard for others' lives here.

PS: The overwhelming majority of "troubled teens" are never going to wind up murdering anybody. Full stop. He's looking at a fraction of a fraction and extrapolating that to all of them, which is really stupid.

Dilbert Guy was fortunate enough to have a STEP son who he was able to watch OD on an fentanyl. Somehow, I suspect that had that boy been his flesh and blood, he would've moved heaven and heart to get him into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for his addictive behavior, and been less than relieved when his son ceased breathing
