Thank you for the resources. This is an election year. Our politicians and those seeking office need to hear about issues affecting us. I’m in PA living outside Phila. The suburban courts are the absolute worst. They’ve treated me like absolute trash for no reason whatsoever.

The Kentucky shared parenting law is the most comprehensive in the US. It has already led to an 11% decrease in court cases in family court in Kentucky despite a growing population.

My son is the most important person in the world to me and I would have moved to Kentucky to get divorced if this law was in force. Women the world over go to London to get divorced why shouldn't men shop around?

The year before Kentucky had any shared parenting laws, beginning July 14, 2016, and lasting 365 days, there were 22,512 family court cases filed. They declined to 21,847 the year the partial shared parenting law began. When the complete shared parenting law took effect in the last 12 months, new cases plummeted to 19,991. In other words, Kentucky’s families filed to sue each other in family court more than 11% less despite the state’s population growth.

My ex wife is in Kentucky. I'll stay far away from that devil. No sense risking the sole custody I leveraged when she ran away...I guess that is no longer a fear since my wife finally adopted my son. But still, I could be happy if distance ensures I'll never see her again.

Personally, my fiancé and I aren’t raising any children here in America. He’s dutch so we’re going back to the Netherlands. In my opinion, for almost every reason imaginable, america is one of the worst countries to raise children in. It’s horrible. It’s a third world country disguised as a first world country. And yeah. Custody battles here are atrocious. I have no doubt my fiancé and I will last. I really think we will. But heaven forbid if we do end up divorced and there are kids involved? I’d want both of us to remain consistent in their lives. Seriously. Women are worse than men were in custody battles back when men always got custody. Women just do it for the money from child support plus the settlement in divorce and not to mention the alimony. My dads ex-wife from before he was with my mom tried to demand alimony after SHE filed for divorce and SHE cheated and abused him. He was down to pennies after child support, he could never have paid alimony. And thankfully the courts didn’t give it to her. But many women are granted alimony even if the man can’t afford it and it was the woman in the wrong. Deplorable.

Yeah anyway. Ain’t living here. Not a great country for literally anyone. So much sexism on both sides. Don’t want my kids raised around that

So Kentucky? 36th in education 44th in healthcare. So right wing that unless your white, count yourself into being considered a minority. Also, it’s an open carry state,so make sure and bring a gun. Finally it’s politics I bring you Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, the two biggest reasons the state is stuck where it is.

Shopping with your feet isn't necessary; the answers are largely there with pre-nups. It isn't perfect, but neither is moving to Kentucky as a slight risk mitigation strategy in the event of a nasty divorce.

A well executed prenup will do far more than the legal presumptions that are codified but not always followed in practice. Judges still have a lot of discretion in family law.

Contract law is much more predictable and while it can't fully address issues like custody, taking a large part of the financial incentives off the table often lead to more equitable results in court, if it even gets to there. I will take a CA or NY divorce with a pre-nup I've drafted (I'm an attorney with experience in this so I could do my own, but please hire an attorney for these if you aren't familiar with this area of law) vs trusting in Kentucky law.
