Do what you want. If you want to have kids then have kids. If you don't want kids then don't have kids.

Having kids is also not about "serving without expecting anything in return". Having kids is perhaps the single most selfish thing a person can do. You are bringing someone who did not ask for it, into this world full of hardships and struggles, so that their presence adds meaning to your life.

That being said humans are selfish creatures. Hopefully people who do choose to have kids do so in dual parent households and are stable and mature enough to give them a nice life.

No you don't need to have kids. While I believe there is a masculine imperative to raising your own kids and building them into strong leaders, you really have to be in the position to do so

I'm talking, your financials need to be in order, no debts, no loans, and you need to have your life together, no addictions, no going out every weekend and getting shitfaced.

Don't even think about having a kid until you can successfully handle the responsibility of a serious, committed relationship. If you can't handle that you can't handle kids. As others have said having children isn't some selfless act that shows what a great and mature person you are it's ultimately a selfish thing to do, YOU do to make YOUR life meaningful. It's often something people fall back on for meaning or as a way to change their lives when other things have failed.

There are outliers in both directions, ofc, but my observation among couples I know is that the wife wants kids and the guy more or less goes along with it.

Idk my parents did it because it was "the thing to do". I say make sure u want it. Because resentment will be felt by the child.

If you don't want kids, don't have them. You'd be doing them a disservice if you weren't fully devoted to them since life, death, joy, and suffering would be forced upon them through no desire or fault of their own.

My mom and dad had me and now the three of us are best friends. We’re also best friends with my paternal grandparents. I take it as my job to get my parents’ arses in gear to adventure and enjoy the magic of life. Plus, I make for an excellent fishing buddy, having been trained since an infant. Like my parents took me fishing as a child, I’ll make sure to take them fishing when they’re old. We’re a team.

I have wonderful nephews and a niece. I don’t feel the need to have kids because they’re so great.

I remember something my dad once said to me. “You’re too big and I can’t give you rides (piggy backs, airplane rides, etc.) anymore. Now it’s your turn to give others rides.”

You don’t need to have kids if you’ don’t want to, and you definitely shouldn’t have kids out of some misplaced sense of duty or expectation. If you don’t want the responsibility, don’t do it
