Reduces risk of getting HIV by .2-3%? That's the best argument you could come up with? FGM also reduces the risk of HIV and by even more than that.

The history on widespread male circumcision is well documented. It began as a "cleanliness ritual" in Judeau-Christian religion. It was then made a shocking revelation, that children who had their genitals mutilated in their infancy had a lower tendency to masturbate.

Then, circumcision was spun as a puritan cure for masturbating perverts. A claim made by the same people who sold you corn flakes on the same false assumption. That's when it became a widespread problem. This was a short-lived movement, but by then, circumcision was widely accepted normal practice, and we used to believe that babies could not even perceive pain.

You know what else is a great way to reduce your risk of catching HIV? Healthy ,stable relationships in your family and your love life.

Fucking gross that some women think they have a qualified opinion on this matter in any century.

So it is my body my choice only if it applies to women? As a guy I can't decide for myself if I want the most likely unnecessary procedure myself. Men can't get circumcised in the future if that is what they want? I don't agree that circumcision and FGM are not the same. The article says they shouldn't be compared. Circumcision is a form of genital mutilation so therefore they should be compared in my opinion. Parents can make medical decisions for their kids even if it isn't medically necessary like circumcision usually is. From what I am aware of it is mostly a tradition and had something to do with the guy who made some cereal to hopefully stop guys from masturbating. It doesn't seem medically necessary most of the time, and also babies can DIE from it if it goes wrong.

I remember watching a goofy show back in the day where the said foreskin was sold for a serious premium to be used in beauty products. Something like 40 grand for it and the hospitals made serious cash with this hustle. I've never heard about it again and never have come across any more info to confim or deny it. It was the early 2000's so it could have been straight bullshit.

Just did a quick google and yup, they are sold for about 1k each, millions of babies a year is no small side hustle... it's used for all sorts of treatments and used in anti aging products. The moment men are born they are only seen as money makers.

In my experience the people that fight this the most are religious (observant) Jews as it’s part of their cultural/ religious practices. I’ve been told that in the 1930-40’s that circumcision was used to identify Jewish males during the nazi persecution and genocide.

So with that fear of exclusion on top of everything else there’s going to be resistance to protecting infant males from being harmed and disfigured in this way.

I know I'll get under fire for this, but circumcision isn't bad, nor is it comparable to FGM.

Whether you want to call it mutilation or not, circumcision is the removal of frankly unimportant skin that only slightly increases sensitivity. FGM Is the removal of vital parts of the outer vagina. There are about 5 variants of FGM, all ranging from removal of the clitoral hood or completely destroying the outside of a vagina and sealing it. The removal of the clitoral hood is comparable to removing the tissue on the head of the penis. FGM is much more severe and brings several severe issues, which are stated in the article. Circumcision doesn't bring any unless it's botched and you consider a slight sensitivity reduction to be equivalent to infection and newborn deaths.

I was circumcised as an infant. I cannot remember it, it did not traumatize me, and the operation was completed perfectly. I have not had a single problem ever in my life with my penis. It's still very sensitive, it's very easy to manage, and I'm secure about it. Sure, I didn't have a choice. I didn't have a choice to be born, I didn't have a choice to get injected with vaccines, nor did I have a choice regarding what I'd look like. I don't think any of these things are bad, and all three of them have brought good, not problems. Circumcision hasn't had a negative affect on my sex life. I'm not sure if it's positively affected it, even though several women claim that circumcision increases attractiveness and pleasure. I don't know if that is true or not. All I can say is that it brings benefits, no problems, even if it's mutilation by definition.

Dear Ignorant Huffpost.

it is by a majority a minor op as my ex wife would attest as she has had this done as a child along with the rest of her racial group via religion.

it was done with a scalpel and a nick was done( today its done in hospital with a laser). boys unfortunately had a lot more cut off and damage done.

for my ex who obviously hated it, i could never find any physical scar( and neither could the doctors) etc, but of course mentally its horrific

so its easy to imagine how it would feel mentally, and physically how painful it would be, but I'm not sure if the mental anguish would be comparable to a bunch of white cis gendered feminist losers( remember their huffpost diversity photo?) who decided that cutting a boy was acceptable and "normal" for whatever reason. I would be curious if any of the huffpost staff would be willing to hold down their baby boys and witness them being mutilated and then be able to look them in the eye years later and tell them "its normal"

This operation was made to me when I was 7. Reason was medical, foreskin was too tight or something.

How my mom know sbout this? No idea and I havent never thought about it.

I remember it being painful after surgery, especially in shower.

But honestly I have never thought sbout it since. It is still working penis, just different looking.

We have talked about it with my friends, and they are like ”Ok”. Its not big deal to me or anyone else.

Just wanted to share this info, because sometimes there is medical issues and foreskin need to ne removed.

My friend had it cut when he was 13.
