A step in the right direction if you ask me. Next move should be to get government funding for some actual help.

[–]ThatGIRLkimT 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Probably it is.

[–]a-man-from-earth 17 points18 points19 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

From their website:

our helpline solely relies on the public for funding (we receive no taxpayer funding or grants)

[–]rabel111 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Awesome that someone is doing this, terrible but typical that they receive no funding.

[–]operative87 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Plus they exist to refer you to local services. There aren’t any such services in most areas. I called the helpline a few years back and they told me there’s nothing in London they can refer victims to.

I saw a poster like that in a gents toilet a few years ago, I felt that something wasn't right in my marriage but because there was no physical violence I didn't think it was domestic abuse ,but seeing such a poster I contacted a domestic abuse agency for men (AMIS abused men in Scotland) and after the first call they advised me to make a plan and to leave as my wife was being abusive to me .

[–]LowAd3406 23 points24 points25 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

We need to get that idea out of our collective heads. Emotional abuse can't be ignored or minimized and we need to start calling it out when we experience it. Especially as men because emotional abuse is ridiculously normalized and even accepted because people will bend over backwards to justify anything women do.

[–]Maleficent-Life4799 10 points11 points12 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Very true, we men need to talk more openly about domestic abuse just as we have been encouraged to talk about our mental health and the media etc needs to get on board like it has done with mens mental health and that it's no longer a weakness but a strength to discuss and admit that men are equally victims of domestic abuse as are women .

[–]spiderelic 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Completely agree. So many of people have got interpreted the issue of domestic abuse as only pertaining to women, though in reality it's a wider, gender-neutral social issue.

Even if people accept the fact that anyone can be a victim, they usually remain steadfast in their sole attribution of 'abuse' to physical assault. As a victim of psychological, emotional and financial abuse by a caregiver, I can say that regardless of its manifestation, domestic abuse is utter hell to get through. I recall wishing that he would actually hit me, since then I'd have 'evidence' of my ill-treatment. No young man or woman should be subject to having their abuse invalidated by others.

I'm really glad you reached out for support and are in a much better place now.

[–]Minute_Ad_1494 16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good 👍

[–]Shreddersaurusrex 12 points13 points14 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Cries in US because abuse in other countries is described as a “Civil matter” here

[–]LowAd3406 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's why we need to watch out for our bros and make sure they're in a healthy relationship. If they aren't, we need to have a place for them to go or give any sort of support we can for them to get out it

[–]Shreddersaurusrex 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am in such a situation and APS is unable to do anything. There is no law against what someone is doing against me.

[–]LowAd3406 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unless there are signs of physical abuse there is nothing they can do. That's why we need to look out for each other and know the signs of emotional abuse so we can help each other out.

Remember what Erin Pizzey used to say? Domestic violence is mostly mutual. Each side escalates to a new level. I've observed this in my family. Both of my grandmothers were victims of it. My grandfathers made some bad decisions way before the first slap. One of my grandmothers is a piece of art. Not that I don't care for her, but she can be hard to bear. She criticizes me for having my hair cut. She criticizes me for not wearing the outfit for holiday, she would like. She used to force food on me. (I no longer eat anything she cooks). If I confront her, she turns herself into a victim. The human interactions she really can appreciate is where she is praised like a goddess, or where the other person has similar personality, and they emphasize what a struggle life is to them.

She starts to cry, and call me out for not willing to eat as much as she would like me to eat, for not having a hairstyle she would like me to have, or not having my balls boiled in black shorts in 100F weather, because she likes when I wear black. She successfully turns others against me, for going against her will. She did not turn out to be this way when she got old. She was most likely the same for ever, but to me she was my grandmother and not somebody with strange personal traits. If she is this way with her own blood, why would I assume, she was different with her husband?

I'm not justifying my grandfather hitting her. But the bad decision starts way before the first slap. The bad decision may start there, where you pick a challenge, when you think life will be thrilling with the challenge of handling a narcissistic person. It may start there when you think more commitment and more responsibility may help the two of you to be able to compromise more. Lots of families are started this way. Then you are there alone, providing for 3 people, your wife is less and less a wife to you and turns into a full time mother. And she retains her controlling personality towards you.

Now, what do you do? If you leave, you aren't only loosing her, you are loosing your son too. Sometimes there are no good decisions. Still the slap is the worst.

Is Erin pizzey the same one who was alienated by feminists groups because she dared to suggest men can also be victims?

[–]BidenLovesTrump 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She was the one who established the first women's shelter.

[–]CatacombsRave 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good, but they should also point out how these victims are more likely to be the arrested ones and to record anything that they can.

Still, though. I’ll take it - a small victory is still a victory!

[–]CrowMagpie 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

uh. I thought the UK was about as misandrous as it gets. That does seem like progress!

I checked their website, and a cursory glance makes it look like they aren't one of those organizations we keep hearing about that's all about giving men help to stop abusing - it looks like it's genuinely about helping male victims. (I didn't dig deep, feel free to correct me.)

BUT this is in the banner:"we receive no taxpayer funding or grants".

Somehow, I exhibit no surprise.

I am a woman, but I support this.

[–]Irrelephantitus 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The only place feminists won't take it down.

[–]toolsavvy 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

not true unfortunately

[–]IceCorrect 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would walk with coucious: Ive similar ads at social media in my country and org that would like to "help" men is just another feminist org with their typical bias towards men. Or maybe Im just older and I dont belive that men would ever get something for free - especialy from strangers.

[–]Confident_Notice975 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the dedicated team tells you to go to therapy / see a professional.. and then therapists tell you to cope… worthless

[–]ABeeBox 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Makes me feel really happy to see that men's issues are starting to be taken seriously, even if slowly, progress is progress.

[–]Altruistic-Wish-5097 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

About time too. We need to know about statistics like these

[–]RatDontPanic 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is some epic progress!

[–]xxTheMagicBulleT 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Good, even slow progress is good progress. Just need some more funding and some more places for those people to get help. But at least more and more stories and people are being heard even though the actual help is still lacking.

[–]Boeijen666 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This made me feel great

[–]Saint_EDGEBOI -3 points-2 points-1 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm liking the positivity here lately, got a little bit incel-ish for a while. Hate only causes further divide, we gotta keep focusing on the positive steps being made and push for further equality.

[–]Cearball 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't remember if this charity does already get government funding.

[–]EngineerWorth2490 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right on

[–]SecondEldenLord 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Seeing some progress towards men's issues is always a blessing to see.

[–]FuckinNogs 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the toilet where triggered feminists can't see it.

[–]ThisFreedomGuy 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is a nice change.

[–]ReasonVision 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Impressive. I was really expecting a tarnishing message, but this is good.

[–]sharksville 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can anyone explain to me what Le that supposed to mean. Like is this supposed to make men feel less bad about the trauma they experienced? In that case then let’s have poster everyone telling women don’t worry because there are other women as well that get sexually assaulted and domestic violence and harassment in their life time, she’s not alone and not the only one to go through that. I can already see the feminist running around and losing their minds
