The bathrooms at my office. The women's door has a keypad lock that does in fact lock. The men's door does not even lock from the inside. (sorry about quality)

This is fairly common and has some "hilarious" side effects.

Was working late and my GF met up with me at the office before we headed out on a date. She needed to use the bathroom, but I don't know the combination to the door lock, so she had to use the men's room while I stood "guard" at the door.

Had a meeting with some clients in a boardroom. One of the clients needed to use the bathroom, once again I don't know the combination to the door. The receptionist on the floor was away from her desk somewhere, so I had to track down some random female employee so they could give this woman the code.

The office itself has electronic door locks so that only employee's can get in. If the company is having problems with employee's sneaking into the women's washrooms, maybe they should terminate these people and possibly call the police? Last I checked, we are supposed to be responsible adults at work.

At my gym the womens changing rooms you have to swipe the membership card in order to open the door while the mens have no such thing and anyone can enter.

Could this be a timing issue? That is, was the women's bathroom renovated more recently than the men's? This doesn't change anything about how you should proceed, but I'm curious. If it's a matter of chance construction, then this isn't a gender biased matter. If not, then we have a problem here.

Reminds me of my school the women's restroom is fully functional with stalls and we get a renovated handicap bathroom with a broken seat cover.

do the public sometimes use the washrooms because having done some custodial work to pay for university I always found the womens washrooms to be about 3x worse than the mens

Now I'm imagining you testing that it "does in fact lock". A casual observer would use you as the reason why it has to be locked in the first place.

The hotels I worked security at required key cards for both change rooms, and there was no policy against the male cleaners cleaning the women's change rooms. So at least some places get it right. Some.

Some morning before anyone gets in, enter a dozen random codes into the keypad. With luck, the door has a "too many attempts" lockout mechanism.... :)
