How many of you got into the MRM through discussions on Reddit?

I was involved in feminism in the 70s and fought to be one of the first women in the US regular army, achieved it, and stayed in male-oriented professions all my life. I own my own business now. Over the years I have been more and more unhappy with feminism as they changed from working toward equality by uplifting themselves, to working toward bringing men down, and then finally to definite misandry. Disgusted, I left feminism, and only found MRM when I started poking around Reddit. Glad to hear there was a movement started in response, because there is real man-hate out there. Now I speak out on behalf of Men's Rights, as my goal was always equality, and men need my efforts on that front now.

I did. I was a strict traditionalist for a long time. Frankly I saw all of you as a bunch of pussies and I didn't understand what you were whining about. But I'd come back here every once in a blue moon when I happened across something that brought me here and that's how I ran into a video post of Girl Writes What's (Karen Straughn) "Feminism and the Disposable Male". I have to say it completely blew my mind. It was a paradigm shifting moment. I watched it a few times, then I watched all of the rest of her videos. To see logic applied to the realm of gender issues is not something I'd experienced before. It really was a red pill moment. Once you encounter those arguments you can't put back on the blinders.

After that I actually started reading what was posted and looking up the statistics and eventually started using the topic for research papers just as a way to engage professors and classmates in discussions. So yes. I'm here because of reddit.

Well, I can definitely say that this sub pushed me over the edge in regards to the MRM.

During my time in Navy "A" school 5 years ago, we had female students that would get dubbed as "Black Widows". When they would have a relationship with a male student that ended up going cold or unfavorable, they would file a harassment complaint. In my Navy community allegations of that nature are taken very seriously and have career altering implications if you are guilty. From what I was seeing, it was often harder for the guy to prove he was innocent than for the girl to have to prove there was any wrongdoing.

I saw things like that and thought it wasn't right, but it was not until I stumbled upon this sub that I saw things like that as an issue in need of attention.

I always had a vague sense of what was right and wrong. I believed in equality, but I believed feminism had gender equality all sewn up. Then I found Reddit. While I acknowledge that online feminism is often regarded as somehow separate to "offline" feminism, I was shocked. These feminists were angry, bitter. They hated men. They didn't care how illogical and emotional their pleas were. As far as they were concerned, men were evil incarnate. It took me all of a month to unsubscribe from the feminism subreddits and discover this subreddit. I've been a member ever since, and watched it grow from a few thousand to 76,000. During the last four and a half years I've also watched men's rights grow in wider appeal in society. I think it's only a matter of time before we gain the same recognition that feminism has. We have the upper hand because we base our beliefs on facts and statistics. No one can question the sorry state of affairs for men right now.

I grew up raised by a single-mother, living with her, my grandmother, my aunt, and my aunt's girlfriend. Growing up, I never really encountered any of the crazy feminists we see here, and just generally viewed it as a good thing. Then I went to college.

Honestly, I'm not about to give a life story here, but I encountered a bunch of the crazy feminist types in college and in the workplace. It soured me on the whole thing a bit, but I still considered myself vaguely supportive of "feminism". About 4-5 years ago I wound up on Reddit and some feminists were bitching and moaning about this sub. I checked it out, made some argumentative posts filled with shitty logic. The people here were extremely patient and presented me with reasonable counterarguments. It sounds boring, but it bugged the fuck out of me.

Anyway, I started browsing more. I'd see a claim made here that seemed absurd, so I'd research it trying to disprove it. Occasionally it'd turn out to be bullshit, but more often than not it turned out to be accurate. Slowly but surely I became an MRA.

It was "Don Draper was raped" article, someone mentioned this subreddit in the comments. And comment was actually negative, if I remember right. But I still was intrested, because even before I discovered MRM, things like "positive discrimination"/quotas, fathers not being able to see their kids after divorce and demonising males/male sexuality pissed me off.

Funny thing - I am homosexual, so it would be more logical for me to support feminist movement. But while I, thankfully, cannot experience some of injustice that herero guys may have (because of gay privilege, lol) it doesn't mean that I cannot relate to them. And quotas, criminal gender gap, demonising males as potential rapists can affect my life too. Especially considering that in my country a lot of people don't make a difference between gay, pedopfiles and bestiality.

I joined the MRM as a consequence of Reddit.

I don't actually know anyone in the men's rights movement, but I know boatloads of feminists, and have been butting heads with them for decades. They would, on occasion, call me an MRA and I would deny it because I wasn't "active" in any conceivable sense of the word and I didn't really know anything about the MRM. It happened often enough that I thought I should investigate, so I ended up here. The first time I ever commented on something in /r/mensrights, some feminist responded, assuming that I was an MRA (saying "your ilk", and "you MRAs" and so on), and for the first time I just didn't bother denying it. I've been not denying it ever since.

I actually found reddit because of the MRM. And I found the MRM because of hateful talking about it in feminists articles. I wanted to know if the MRM is really that bad and followed the links to /r/mensrights.

I was calling bullshit on the wage gap in high school, but a couple years ago I decided to look into feminism, feeling I didn't know much about it. That eventually led me here.

I've always been sympathetic to the issues men face.

I've been suicidal, learnt to be "manly" the hard way, been alarmed by what seems to go on with regard to marriage in the west. Disappointed with the lack of empathy afforded to men. Horrified at the mutilation male infants are put through (its not something 'normal' where I'm from).

I have never been a traditionalist (far, far from it), so initially I was disappointed when I encountered MR sites like the spearhead which have that kind of bent, but /r/mensrights seems to have the right idea.

IIRC, I saw a video of GWW's, who mentioned in the video either about her blog or straight MR.reddit. That brought me here where I lurked for a month or two before finally making this account.

Prior to this I understood that men were given a shitty deal in some respects, but was never able to quantify it to other people.

I frequently browse /r/all and at the time I kept seeing Warren Farrell pop up to random posts. It was videos about when he was being protested against in University of Toronto. I watched those and was sickened by the protests, which lead me into learning more about gender issues, and the problems with feminism.

Just to say, I'm aligned with the MRA movement, but I don't want to consider myself part of it (nothing related to the movement, it's just me). I didn't discover it through Reddit itself, as I only started to visit Reddit to visit this subreddit and some others.

However, I visited this subreddit plenty of times by being linked here from other websites (blogs, forums) and from some custom Google searches. Mind that I wasn't even aware there was a Men's Rights Movement until I found out about AVFM, The Spear Head and this subreddit, and that was barely 1-2 years ago. Here I constantly find very useful information, that's why I keep coming back. This has pushed me much closer to the movement than other websites have.

I will just say that in some places, MRM, especially Reddit one, has a very poor reputation among men. The fedora neckbeard cliché hurts the movement. Something else that hurts the movement are the men who are terribly bitter towards women and whose comments are not very different from radfems ones (swapping the sexes of course).

I hated this sub when I first got to Reddit. I thought it was hateful and misguided. Then I was in 2X, a sub I frequented often. An abortion discussion started and the topic of financial abortions came up. Everyone started spewing the standard arguments "men should know the consequences of sex" and "if they don't want kids, they just just not have sex." I was amazed to see the same abortion arguments that were so demonized when aimed at women, being upvoted. That was when I reconsidered this sub, and I'm happy I did.

I didn't even know there was a MR movement before I came here to be honest. But after experiencing all my "male privilege" on my own for years I became an MRA on my own. This was a pretty quite thing mostly kept to myself because of all the social taboo around even suggesting that things weren't right for men.. It was nice to find this subreddit and I spend time here now as a result. Cheers.

I don't know if I'd say that I'm part of the Men's Rights Movement so much, but I started recently posting and commenting in /r/mensrights because the oppressive feminism in many of my frequently-visited subreddits is becoming more and more intolerable. A perfect example is the current shitstorm going on in /r/gaming and /r/games regarding the artistic styling of the new game, Dragon's Crown. Every thread you visit concerning it has dozens upon dozens of mentions about how vile and disgusting the depiction of the female Sorceress character is because she has large breasts and was designed to be sexually appealing, while completely ignoring the grotesquely exaggerated physiques of male characters. Ignored is the fact that the entire game is a hyper-exaggerated, stylistic fantasy; the only thing that matters is that one of the female characters was "clearly designed only to satisfy the male gaze."

Prior to that, you had Anita Sarkeesian's fangirls invading every thread about Tomb Raider or The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite or [insert game with female character/companion) to whine about "sexist tropes" and "sexualization" and "male power fantasies" and [insert feminist buzzword].

It was the hypocrisy that got to me. Hyper-feminine depictions are sexist because they're "male sexual fantasies" but hyper-masculinity doesn't count as "female sexual fantasies" because it's just a "male power fantasy". Any hint of cleavage in a character who is in all other criteria a strong and independent protagonist (eg, Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot) is automatically a dastardly sign of sexual objectification, and sexualization is bad. Why? Because Patriarchy, that's why. DON'T FUCKING QUESTION US YOU MISOGYNIST!

Honestly, it feels a little like the people complaining about this sort of stuff hate females and the female form more than the supposed misogynists that they see around every corner.

I found out about the mrm from reddit, I couldn't find any help for childhood trauma because every one I called in my area only takes women and girls there are no government funded help lines or centers for men and no women's center knew of anyone that helps men.

I found some post from memsrights and subscribed, I've told a lot of my friends about this sub, some think I'm crazy but most will talk about it as long as we are alone. The message is spreading but very slowly, we just don't have the money for large organization to spread the word.
