1) The study used a modified Malamuth scale (usually a 1 to 5 scale where 1 is "not likely at all" and 5 is "very likely"). Malamuth himself cautions researchers to not take the answers as predictions of future behavior, as the respondents are answering hypotheticals.

2) The study asked a series of questions, prefaced by, "if you knew there would be no consequences and no one would find out, how likely would you be to..." There is then a list of normal (heterosexual sex, oral sex, etc), unconventional (group sex, bondage, etc) and illegal (rape, force a woman to do something she didn't want to do, etc) sexual activities.

3) "rape" appears prior to "force a woman to do something she didn't want to do" on the list. To my mind, this may lead some respondents to imagine something sexual that is not forced sexual intercourse. I mean, they already asked about rape, right? They must be asking about something else now. Certainly, we can all agree that there are sexual things you can force someone to do that would not fit the definition of rape, even in its most broad definitions. "Force her to send me pictures of her tits," for instance. "Force her to watch porn with me." "Force her to listen over the phone/watch while I jerk off." These are still forms of sexual coercion/violence, however they do not fit the definition of rape. The ordering of the questions seems to me like it would capture any men who believe they would not force sexual intercourse, but would maybe force other sexual activities, and then categorize them as potential rapists.

4) the scale they used was 0 to 100, where 0 represents "not at all" and 100 represents "very likely". The researchers then presented all answers higher than 10 to the "rape" and "force a woman to do something she didn't want to do" as "having intent to rape". So basically, anyone who answered something other than "not at all" or so close to not at all as to still represent a "1" on the original 1-5 scale, to either of the two questions was described in the research as "definitely would rape". This is basically taking Malamuth's original cautioning, wiping their asses with it, and flushing it down the toilet.

Well evidently you can't view it online.

I have no more reason to assume they included the questionnaire in their online publication then in their physical publication.

Its 2017. What makes you think there was a physical publication?

And if you do not want people to call your research a push poll, then yes, you really DO need to publish the survey in the online format.

Are you offering to pay for this? At the very least you are going to need copyright clearance from 3 sets of people 2 of whom are going to have to go digging through their archives for the worldings of decade old author releases (and you will find that their time is rather expensive). Probably cheaper to drive 1500 miles to winnipeg.

There's a reason I prefer to leave the open data thing to the young and naive (or the aging activists) these days.

It's still a thought exercise because the opinions being measured are about a fabricated scenario that's not possible in the real world.

"Men and women are not evenly split on the merits of Pegasi as day-to-day means of transportation. Men are heavily in favour, showing 28% Highly Agree and 51% Agree, while women are far more conservative, with only 8% Highly Agree, and 12% Agree. When polled, the top three reasons for the more conservative view on flying horses in women were:

82% - Safety. Flying animals pose a huge risk to children and exacerbate issues like drunk driving, inattentive driving, etc.

76% - Storage. Even the largest Pegasus cannot hold even a fraction of the cargo of your stock minivan and still get aloft.

68% - Passenger Room. With very small children and a light adult, it's possible to get three on a Pegasus, but with some minivans seating 9 adults in three rows, this is a significant negative.

Yeah, I'd love to see those studies and the methodology.

Canadian studies on perps in jail for sexual assault showed that perps admit to an average of six victims each. Ergo the number of perps is always going to be less than the number of victims.

When we poll the public directly in Canada and ask them if they've been sexually assaulted, we get a self-reporting rate over 5 years in our GSS of 22/1000, or 4.4/1000 annually, or 0.44%. Based on that admitted 6 victims per perp, this means our perp pool is roughly 0.07% of the population.

Up here in Canada, we have roughly 40 000 people in provincial or federal prison. Most of those are for petty crimes, obviously, but even if every last one of them was a rapist, this would still only be 0.11% of the population. Your figures seem astronomically high.

Attraction to sexual aggression. The survey concluded with part of the attraction to sexual aggression scale (Malamuth 1989a,b). This scale measures self-reported likelihood to engage in a variety of sexual behaviors ‘‘if nobody would ever know and there wouldn’t be any consequences’’ for the participants. The behaviors that were included were heterosexual intercourse, forcing a female to do something sexual she does not want to, and rape. We chose to use a hypothetical scale like this because we believed that it would lead to less social desirability bias in this research, as well as lessen any concerns participants might have about divulging information about past crimes. In addition, for the purpose of this study, the key points of having labels (rape)versus behavioral descriptions of sexual aggression is completely addressed with this scale.

It was a BS paper, as they didn't ask the same of women, or gay men and lesbian women. No controls, very limited sample, etc. Their conclusion is an utter fabrication too, it's junk science.
