After my girlfriend shared a sexist rant on Instagram on IWD it took me a long time to be able to articulate all the issues that I had with it. The meat of the post was that, as a man, I bear a responsibility to govern the actions of all men and that failure to do so amounts to complicity in the crimes committed against women by men.

Besides the obvious sexism and the idea that I am somehow complicit in the abuse women that, for personal reasons I won't discuss here, my girlfriend knows I would find utterly detestable. The idea that anyone who identifies as male somehow burdened with a type of Sin that we have to make amends for is ridiculous to me.

I also can be characterized as white, straight, western, brown haired, green eyed; And yet I bear no Sin for these, only my gender.

Needless to say we had a argument over it and we both admitted to saying things we shouldn't have. But its not the first time I've been confronted with this idea, but this time I think I now have a firm grasp of what rankled me about it.

Not religious by the by. But Sin seems the best word here.
