I (28f) have been with my bf (31) for 4.5 years. I’m currently in nursing school and working as a CNA while taking classes. I’ve noticed my bf makes condescending jokes about my job anytime I mention something about my job or working. I’ll say something like “work was so busy” and, like clockwork, he will say “you workin that slave job” or I always work Saturday and he refers to that as “poverty shift”. It’s always in a “joking manner” but the frequency at which he makes these jokes is concerning to me. I realized the other day I intentionally didn’t tell him I picked up another shift because I didn’t want to hear his jokes. Another weird aspect to this is that he has a great job, flexible hours, 9-5 but can basically show up and leave whenever he wants wants. So it’s like why are you making fun of me we both already know you have the better job? Idk that is strange to me.

I think I can be over sensitive to stuff like this in general so I haven’t said anything for the months that this has been going on. But Sunday night he made another comment and I basically asked him to stop making comments like that. I was respectful and unemotional. He tried to argue me but ultimately said okay. The next day he didn’t text me at all but I had already known he was mad about it right after I said it. I know how he is. So I called him last night and he basically said I complain about everything, I’m trying to take away his personal expression, it was a whole thing. We are/were planning to move in together after I graduate in December. He said it’s stuff like this that makes him not want to live with me. From my point of view this whole thing is ridiculous and didn’t need to go any further than the conversation Sunday. I feel like he’s just looking for reasons to not commit. What are peoples opinions of this? Sometimes I doubt my perception on things like this.
