Just tell her next time when you don't try to walk her to the car, "I thought about what you said about walking you to the car being misogynistic. I wouldn't want to be misogynistic so I won't do that anymore. It's weird because I always saw it as a good trait of masculinity to protect those we care about, but apparently it's misogynistic. I walk myself to my car alone all the time with no one protecting me so I guess that makes sense."

This is why I stopped walking a "friend" home. So glad to get my protection but when she and another "friend" caused me a mental breakdown she was nowhere to be seen. To this day she has never made amends.

These kinds of conversations are necessary. We NEED people to think critically about their teachings. The more open dialogue we have about what it is people really want from men and masculinity, the less people will be walking around with contradictory moral double-negatives that always paint men out to be the bad guy.

"Hey, So I was thinking about the other day. You're my friend and I care about you so I want to make sure you're safe, which is why I had been walking to your car. But, I can see how that might feel a bit infantilizing, like you're not able to protect yourself. So, I guess I'm asking what you would like me to do. I Wouldn't think less of you if you want me to walk you to your car, but at the same time, I don't want to be doing something that makes you feel bad."

If she questions why you felt the need to walk her to her car:

"It's not that I think less of you, or think that you're helpless, but more the shitty realistic part of the world is that criminals often target people they feel they're physically stronger than. It sucks, but I can't change the world, I can't make shitty people less prone to violence, and I can't make you grow a foot taller to be more intimidating to criminals. All I can really do is hope seeing another person with you would dissuade someone who has bad intentions. "

noun - Hatred or mistrust of women.
