I always get the same excuses about how it's women's bodies affected, about how the man is the one who physically ejaculates, etc. as if that's equivalent to 18 years of financial servitude enforced by the strong arm of the law. It's all smokescreens. What it really comes down to is 2 people making a joint decision to have unprotected, or insufficiently protected sex, both knowing the risk, and only ONE being held responsible for this action, and one being held responsible for the choice the other makes, because that one is a man and people don't care about men. It's a double standard, plain and simple. It's "about the child" but only after the woman makes a solo decision to bring the child into the world. It's a refusal to give women's actions equal weight to men's.

This is an area where it's impossible to be perfectly equal. Men will never have to go through abortion or pregnancy, yes. On the other hand, women will never have to go through having a foetus they helped create legally aborted against their will, and they will never be able to have the choice to become a single parent by simply selecting a random of their choice off Tinder and having unprotected sex, as two examples. Our biology makes closing some gaps impossible. Maybe men should be able to be compelled to pay for abortions as some compensation to close the gap on not having to go through it if they knowingly had unprotected sex. But the fact that people think it's ok to enslave someone for 18 years because he "should've kept it in his pants" and think that's equal to the suffering of a safe, legal abortion is horrifying to me.
