Funny how they sometimes say they don’t understand male competitiveness but they’re plenty competitive when it comes to which sex has a harder life.

I love seeing bullet points such as

Men die earlier but women live longer in worse health.

One is quantitative data and the other is subjective qualitative data and used to negate the other.

Perhaps as a whole men and women dont view things the same way and dont use the same scale to rate their experience.

Perhaps as a whole men and women dont view things the same way

Men don't engage in damselling. Among women it's a competitive sport.

One of my favorites was: "One in five people who are homeless are women, we need to help these women!" - so 80% are men but fuck them, right?

[–]manicmonkeys 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There was a similar one about how something like 11% of all journalists killed are women...

"Not a competition anymore".

Just as well. Cos if it was, women would barely even register because MOST "so called female suicide attempts" are a fucking insult to the countless male dead.

Use your nails to cut your skin? Suicide attempt, according to many female questionnaires.

Took 6 paracetamol then went to a hospital to tell them? Counts the same as a man who put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

Feeling down so called ex boyfriend you want to emotionally manipulate into winning back so you say you are suicidal? Counted as a statistic alongside a male who jumped off a twenty story building.

Like I say-just as well its not a competition, because the rules are total shit, and like most things, heavily skewed to make us think women need more help than they do when we should be focusing on the TRUE victims, males.

Yeah, they don't realize that by saying "women use less lethal methods" they are implying that women are all airheaded bimbos, when compared to men, who are too incompetent to type "How to tie a noose" into Google...

Option 1: They are either too incompetent to learn about what methods are effective, and then use them, like men do

or

Option 2: They are just trying to get attention

Either way; it doesn't paint the women who are attempting suicide in a very flattering light.

[–]Ok-Crab-4063 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We ridicule what they say as if we expected anything different than mind numbing mental gymnastics that are meant to solely manipulate us. Everyday is the same.

"Women suffer."

- yes

"Men suffer."

- yes, but...

[–]Bosch1450 30 points31 points32 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What gets me is - women will say a man is a baby or child over the tiniest action related to something they didn't even sign up for and will tell them to toughen up. But if a woman pulls they "I'm a little frail woman." or "I don't feel safe." and a man says -"This is what you signed up for, toughen up." That's bad an evil.

[–]Old-Measurement-9801 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's still a deep biological drive in female nature to view themselves as the "prize" for a socioeconomically successful man and be the nurturer-caretaker to his protector-provider.

They want men to be strong, but there's a much weaker urge to be strong themselves (it usually only comes out when their child is in danger).

The reason we're seeing discrepancies like the one you mentioned is that feminism has inculated three or four generations now with the idea that men and women are exactly the same (well, when such differences are favorable to women anyway).

Feminism has over-corrected so much that we now have a situation where men are expected to do all the traditional manly things but not expect any acknowledgement or appreciation of them. They are instead made to recite shibboleths about how women can do everything men do and more, the world would be so much better if women ran things, masculinity is toxic, etc.

[–]TrilIias 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Studies find that women "attempt" more because they include self harm as suicide attempts. Women engage in self harm more than men.

[–]Educational-Ear-39631 points 3 years ago [recovered] (15 children) | Copy Link

Women do it for attention. Men do it when they lose everything

[–]phoenician_anarchist 18 points19 points20 points 3 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think it's more so that men know that no-one really cares so they don't bother with the parasuicidal gestures. If this weren't the case, I don't think there would be much of a disparity.

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Or they don’t call for help immediately after attempting like many women do, because they feel like nobody cares.

[–]phoenician_anarchist 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would someone who actually wants to die call for help at all? A parasuicidal gesture is a "call for help/attention" not an attempted suicide, but it's politically expedient to conflate the two.

they feel like nobody cares

It's quite often more than a feeling.

[–]critical_Bat 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Suicidal thoughts, a suicide attempt that is easier to survive as well as a call for help to me are vastly different than actually committing suicide.

[–]mdktun 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just want to phrase this differently.

There's more women than men who attempt suicide for attention. And men are more lethal.

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think that’s fair honestly, we don’t do it for attention we have legitimate reasons. Let’s not fight sexism with more sexism.

[–]Educational-Ear-39631 points 3 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

You do do it for attention, or else the suicide rate for women would be much higher

[+]Gulbahar-00[S] -11 points-10 points-9 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

No we don’t, we just survive more because we have a lower gun ownership rate and are more likely to seek emergency help. Men don’t seek help or call 911 because they know that they’re less likely to be supported.

[–]phoenician_anarchist 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

we just survive more because we have a lower gun ownership rate

So the suicide "success" rate would correlate with gun ownership rates then?

The "more violent methods" narrative doesn't hold water. Fore example, the most common method of suicide in the UK is "hanging, strangulation and suffocation" (all three are the same one category) for both men and women. Very few suicides here involve firearms, and I believe they are usually murder-suicides.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

we just survive more because we have a lower gun ownership

Similar rates of suicide occur in Australia where hardly anybody has guns.

[–]killcat 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sure. That's why taking some "pills" and calling an ex to tell them is an "attempt", or cutting your arm (even if it's no where near a major blood vessel) is regarded as an "attempt".

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men don’t call people to tell them because they feel that they won’t get support or compassion. Women call people because we feel that people will care about us.

[–]odysseytree 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what asking for attention means.

[+]apmartin1991 -9 points-8 points-7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women suffer too. Women can and do have mental health issues. Women do attempt suicide when they feel helpless. Men don't just attempt suicide when they've lost everything, many attempt this when they seemingly have everything they need.

[–]ChaosOpen 11 points12 points13 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's not that hard to kill yourself, getting close without killing yourself take a lot of effort, those who "attempted suicide" and lived to tell the tale had no desire to kill themselves. Hence, why the "women attempt more" does not hold water.

[–]mycoxsux69 8 points9 points10 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They also say that women use "less violent" means of suicide (overdose or fume poison) ...what they mean are survivable means. They aren't going to go through with it because they know someone will care and help, whereas men make sure they die....since we know no one will come to our "rescue"

[–]ChaosOpen 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, because it takes a stupid amount to actually kill yourself with drugs. For example if you wanted to use over-the-counter drugs it takes 150 Advil or 170 asprin tablets to stand a chance of killing you. Which is why they can swallow an entire bottle and make a full recovery. Women who actually want to kill themselves tend to go with hanging, women who want to look like they wanted to kill themselves swallow a bottle of pills.

[–]Worldly_Piano9526 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I don't know if they realize that they are basically implying that women are a bunch of airheaded bimbos who are too incompetent to type "How to tie a slipknot" into Google.

[–]Fun-Hedgehog-8962 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People who fail suicide attempts try it multiple times too, adding to the number of attempts from a smaller amount of people.

If you’re successful, of course you’re just one and done as far as statistics go. Men typically choose more violent methods right? Not likely to survive a self inflicted gunshot, but a pill overdose can be survived time and time again.

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are statistics showing that 3% of men and 7% of women have attempted

[–]skymonstef 4 points5 points6 points 3 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

To them it is

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] 3 points4 points5 points 3 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I agree with raising awareness and taking steps such as making healthcare more affordable for people who attempted suicide and giving them more autonomy making medical decisions on hospitalization, but I don’t see why we have to make it into a competition especially towards people who literally died.

[–]rabel111 16 points17 points18 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Much of the funding that is directed to address the tragic number of suicides in our community (75-80% males) is redirected to helping women who self-harm with no intention of ending their lives (75-80% of funding).

This is why it matters. Suicide is a very gendered tragedy in our communities, prodominantly affecting men and boys, but feminist policy makers are determined to ignore that, using arguments that shift the focus and funding back to women.

[–]skymonstef 6 points7 points8 points 3 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

We don't they do and the have to because the have turned victimised into a currency and without it they are lost

[–]Gulbahar-00[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

By “we” I meant people who advocate for women who attempted suicide, I don’t see why it needs to be a competition

[–]skymonstef 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And by we I mean men don't make it a competition it's women and their advocates doing that

[–]ruMenDugKenningthreW -4 points-3 points-2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why does this have downvo- oh. You mentioned better access to healthcare and right wingers no likey actually making America great.

[–]elebrin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Honestly, I am at a point of let them commit suicide if they want. That's pretty horrible of me perhaps, but think of it this way: therapy for men basically doesn't exist. It's all by women and for women. Their big plan for solving the suicide problem is to take away the means and drug people into complacency without addressing the underlying problems. That's not a solution.

[–]Worldly_Piano9526 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I almost guarantee that if hospitals started rejecting people who attempt suicide; we would see significantly less suicide attempts.

There is a reason why women use less lethal methods, and I don't think it's because they are just too incompetent to learn how to tie a slipknot.

[–]Shuddemell666 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Typically, this is because women generally "attempt" suicide for attention and pity, not out of a genuine desire to die. Men however, generally, only attempt suicide when they actually want to be done with it all. Also, men don't generally use unsure methods like pills, et al. they tend to firearms, hanging, that sort of thing.

[–]king_rootin_tootin 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason women "attempt" suicide more often is because women are a lot more likely to have histrionic personality disorder then men:

https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/diseases-conditions/histrionic-personality-disorder#:~:text=It%20is%20diagnosed%20more%20often,late%20teens%20or%20early%2020s.

And people with histrionic personality disorder often have many dramatic suicide "attempts" in their lifetimes

https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/european-psychiatry/article/abs/personality-disorders-and-suicide-attempts/8428CE83145CCD37A227BED6DE4C774C

A few women have many "attempts" at suicide, which is really just them seeking attention, so it skews the numbers

[–]Worldly_Piano9526 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Assuming that we are talking about suicide rates; women attempting more does not paint a very flattering picture of women no matter how you slice it.

Option 1: They are either too stupid and/or incompetent to figure out how to use the more effective methods that men use

or

Option 2: They don't actually want to end their life, it's a cry for help that they are just using to garner attention and sympathy from their friends and family

Pick whichever one you want because either way; it looks bad on women.
