I think we need the broader story.

A lesson that many women need to learn sounds so simple but it’s this: don’t break up with your man unless you are 100% serious about moving on, no contact. I see this mistake made so often I thought about writing a post on it but on the face, it seems very simple and like “duh” advice.

Breaking up with a man is an incredible blow to his ego and takes away any control he has. This is a horrible feeling, obviously. Women, especially younger women, are so quick to throw in the towel. Usually they do so because they either : 1) think it will shock him into coming back and “acting right” or 2) legitimately think they are done and then when they get lonely a couple weeks later come running back.

To get back together and actually move past it effectively is possible but things will never be exactly the same as before and he will likely always feel some sort of defensiveness or guard up because of this. You will never be exactly the same in his eyes, unless he did something horrible to cause it like cheating.

So my advice to women is do not break up unless you are 100% ready to move on. If you are questioning it, give yourself space while you work it out but don’t end it. Once you do that, you forever change how this man feels about you. We don’t talk often enough about loyalty here (which I suppose is just a way of showing respect) but it’s critical for men and a break up is the antithesis of loyalty.

OP I know this is in the past for you but this topic has been on my mind so I hope you are OK that I used your question as a springboard for some thoughts. I do think we need to know more of the story to be able to advise you on next steps.

You should move on. If he wanted you back he’d make moves to get you back. Insecurity ruining things is something we all experience. But like the billboard thing, maybe you could take this as a sign, too. It wasn’t meant to be, he isn’t the right guy for you, you can improve your self-confidence, and you learned a few lessons here. Trust me, it’s better to bow out gracefully and cut your losses versus texting him one last time and looking desperate. It’s over and time to move on.

He’s just not that into you. His response and actions after you tried to repair the relationship very clearly indicate that. He might hit you up for sex again if he’s bored/ lonely down the track.

I think you might be so caught up in “what could have been” that you are forgetting he probably isn’t what you’re making him out to be in your head. Its probably best to move on.

Full text: There's so much to this story but I'll keep it simple. I dated a HVM years ago. I'm 23. He's 34. I broke it off pretty soon due to me being insecure. We met up a few times after that. Then he started to blow me off, finally telling me that we shouldn't meet. I can tell he's still upset or offended from the first time though he's always nice and respectful when we talk. He might think I just want him for his money. We haven't spoken in almost a year. I'm thinking of sending him one more text before I give up. Is there any point in trying? Word gets around. Better to always respect his distance. Eventually you’ll be with someone else and they may know each other or mutuals.

Tbh if you’re commitment worthy you will have to try to find personal space, never having to decipher or question your partner’s intentions. It’ll be clear.

Update: I ended up texting him. I told him that I regret ending things with him and I want to try again seriously. He seemed really excited to hear from me. He just kept complimenting me, asking if I'm sure, and saying I can do better than him (weird). He didn't answer if he wanted to date again. I'm assuming he needs time to think about it. He ended with "We'll talk more soon."...
