She can’t throw you out of your own house, you have residency there she’s just trying to scare you. A landlord can’t even evict a tenant without a court order and 30 day notice.

She’s trying to bully you into submission. You say you can’t afford a lawyer but she’s going to get you for child support. I assume you’re employed? You may very well need to go into debt to pay for the legal fees which a lot of guys have to do. Most take credit cards, you can take a loan from your 401k, you can get a cash advance from work, you can get a personal loan the list goes on. You aren’t hopeless you just need to snap out of this grab your balls realize she’s trying to steamroll you and fight the fuck back.

She can’t throw you out of your own home without a court order. And she’d need a pretty serious justification to do so, like an accusation of domestic violence

The kids can decide where they wish to live. They’re old enough.

Also be very careful. I had no idea about orders of protection or any of that kind of b******* My soon to be ex-wife told me to leave the house. She took the kids and 3 days later I was served with a document by some police officers that told me I had 10 minutes to grab my belongings before they would kick me out of my house. I really hope this doesn't happen to you. It's so easy for them to get these orders of protection. We had no history of any police interaction whatsoever. No violence, nothing. No threats of violence. No proof of threats of violence. Nothing and she was still able to get the order of protection and have it upheld in court. You need to speak with an attorney ASAP.

Depending on income differences you'll be on the hook for child support for 2 years for the 16yo and 3 years for the 15yo. But you'll be on Spousal support until a major change happens to the Ex (gets a job making more than you, gets re-married) because you were married more than 10 years. The only way for her to get you "thrown out" is to file for a restraining order for abuse. Document EVERYTHING. Keep all written communication (i.e. texts, emails, notes) and record every interaction. CA is a 2 party consent state so she has to agree to the recording of conversations. I am not a lawyer but here are the 2 options I was told. If a verbal conversation begins, pull out a recording device and tell her you intend to record the interaction and if she continues you will accept that as her agreement to the recording. OR just walk away and tell her you want any communication in writing. In order to protect yourself, make sure you are not alone together in the house. If you can't afford an attorney, at least try to come up with a 1 hour consultation fee and ask the attorney what to do regarding your interactions with her and the possibility of getting "thrown out".

For California : Child support up to 18 years old. If there is a wage disparity the high earner will pay to maintain the other for half the duration of the marriage. In my case, my earnings were $250k annually and expected to pay wife $4,500. per month to maintain her life style even though she works for a salad of $55K. No man should ever marry under the current family court system…..EVER! Also, record every conversation with her and never lose your cool with her. Now focus on building working on yourself up, kids and stay away from women for a minimum of a year.

Make sure you use your phone to record conversations if she wants to talk.

You can use credit card for retainer or see if there is pro bona lawyer to help you.

FL-100 covers a lot of this early in the divorce process. It's where temporary alimony, child support, and legal fees are decided. More permanent orders will dial it in.

Is she represented?

If it were me, I'd tell the judge I'm without legal representation and don't understand the process. And I'd start reading a lot.
