A lot of people don't understand the rationale behind child support payments like this and just jump to "it doesn't cost $30,000 a month to raise a child".

The theory behind these payments is that a child shouldn't have a "fun / rich home" and a "hard / poor home". Both parents should be able to provide a similar environment for the child. To a certain extent, that's reasonable. Without some level of equity, it would be pretty easy for a rich parent to alienate the kid from a poor (or even middle class) parent. Would you rather spend the weekend with Dad who will take his private jet to Florida for a day at Disney World, or spend the weekend with Mom who works as a school teacher whose weekends consist of grocery shopping, cleaning the house and running errands that she doesn't have time for during the week?

So the $30,000/month isn't intended to just buy food and clothes for the kid. It intended to provide the other parent with a better house, the resources to travel, the ability to provide designer clothes and extravagant outings. It's even intended to allow the other parent to not work so they have the time to spend with the child.

Personally, I think there should be a maximum child support payment (and it should be well below $30,000/month). At some point, the receiving parent should have a sufficient amount of money that they can provide for their child in a manner similar to the paying parent, even if the paying parent still has more money overall. At some point, love should be an adequate substitute for any money differences that exist between the parents.

This is very interesting to me.

I always think that the true purpose of child support laws is NOT to support any child. Supporting any child will not deter rich men from having children. It's his own children. He doesn't take it with him.

The purpose of child support laws is the same with the purpose of alimony, and palimony.

Punish rich men for having sex and children
Give women incentive to backstab the man.

For that to happen the man's payment to women must

Be proportional to the man's income or wealth
Paid when women leave
Decided by court. The women themselves cannot agree on a different deal.

It's a theory.

But is it reasonable?

Well, think about it. This is democracy. Most men want to get rid superior competitors right. Rich men simply using his money to get women is a very powerful competitor. That is especially true if the man is as handsome as Al Pacino.

If Al Pacino offer $2k a month child support, and the rest go to the children at 18, for example. How many women would take that? Millions. I bet Al can find really hot 5 ones and knock them up 5 times each.

This pissed off a lot of people. Many poor men will have harder time getting pretty women. Many feminists will have to confront that it's actually very easy for pretty women to have rich smart handsome children. Just don't be a feminist and be pretty.

So yea of course they want to disallow that.

Empirically?

Just look at all laws that force men to pay women. They all fit the 3 patterns. Often the women themselves cannot agree differently.

In Australia, even if a woman agree on pre relationship agreement, they still can leave the man and get half the man's stuff. Why? Because the government want to punish men for getting women.

False rape accusation and the idea that consent can always be withdrawn follows the same pattern.

Women cannot consent. She cannot commit to consent. She can always choose to bail out and backstab the man with no negative consequences. Often she's rewarded for that.

Of course win win deal where men simply pay women to have sex is also not allowed. The reasoning go from dehumanizing men, treating sex as commodity, exploitation, abuse, and so on. All those has no scientific meaning whatsoever.

To be honest. I am not a muslim. But I like their contract marriage and polygamy. The closest thing western men can do is sugar relationship. But I bet there are laws against things like that too.
