I'm not poor per se, but my family is working class and where I go to college almost everyone is rich, most of them have cars or their own, have parents with prestigious jobs and have gorgeous 3 floor houses.

I come from a working class family, none of my parents attended college and they work blue collar jobs, my dad is a mechanic and my mum owns a small grocery shop, our house is small and lots of things are broken , not well maintained.

my parents tried their best to make a better life for me and I'm very thankful for that but I still can't get over my shame especially when most people around me are wealthy.

I try to avoid the subject when people talk about their parents jobs, I never facetime people when I'm at home, I never have people over and it's been always like this.

recently I've started dating someone who comes from the same wealthy background and it's starting to feel less like hiding my background and more like lying about it.

I even considered breaking up with him over this, because i hate how guily and inferior I feel about all of this and I would hate for him to change his perspective on me just because of where I come from.

how can I proceed? what's the safest path?
