Wife (41F) and I (42M) have been living apart for 16 months. She now has a bf and is bringing up doing legal separation paperwork. Legal separation because the kids stay at the house and we rotate in and out. So we’re trying to keep that normalcy for them. And to not financially screw either of us. From what I can tell though legal separation isn’t much different than what we’re doing is except there’s schedule time with the kids. Otherwise you can still have joint bank accounts, she can still be on my insurance, she can still partially claim any money I acquire after the separation paperwork is filed. For anyone that has gone through legal separation, am I missing something before I just say fuck it and sign the papers?
