There are online calculators available that should process the cold numbers for you. If they calculate that you should be receiving support, then maybe you want to just rejuggle things so that you're not in the precarious (possibly??) Position of asking for support. Maybe have her carry the health insurance for the kids or get the tax deduction for yourself. Maybe have her pay for the trumpet lessons or judo lessons. Whatever

The judge in my case gave me primary custody but determined that the amount on our child support calculator was "unjust." I get nothing. She also gets to claim them on her taxes. Fuck the system.

It is not simply about "trying." It is your children's rights to live in equal living situations between parents. Some states have a state calculator used for determining child support. That being said... it also takes into account who pays for monthly child expenses such as medical and dental. So there is a chance if she makes slightly more, but is paying for the expenses such as medical/dental/other extraordinary expenses like daycare, you could actually still owe her child support. So if you want child support, make way less, and the expenses still don't affect you to off set that, she has no case to fight you on that front. But it is still both of your choice to want child support or not.

There is also one thing to consider... if you foresee yourself in the future making a lot more than she does with potential for promotion, it may be in your best interest to write a Claus in there saying no child support will be paid by either party and both parties waive their rights to reevaluate child support in the future. I know men who have benefited from this in the long run.

In most states child support is a mathematical formula based on parents' income and percentage of overnights each parent has with the child(ren). Google North Carolina child support calculator and plug in the data and you should have your answer. And if you're entitled to it - TAKE IT. "Child support" amounts ordered are far over and above actual needs of the children in this country and until more women are forced to pay it nothing will change.
