First approach: I used to think that getting into "state" was some sort of magical alternate form one turned into like Goku turning Super Saian in Dragon Ball Z. Thinking of state like this works, and some of the things I used to do in order to snap into state included:
- A cold shower until you start hyperventilating (advice from another sedditor)
- Drinking a little alcohol.
- Drinking a little caffeine (much better than alcohol in my opinion)
- Jumping jacks
- Yelling at the top of my lungs
- Slapping my face or thighs a few times
- Listening to pump-up music
- Getting dressed up
- Reading seddit (especially good FR's)
- Watching some game material on youtube
- Saying "How's it going!" to people on the street.
- Catching up with friends on the phone.
- Pre-partying
- Going for a run (not mine, but advice from another sedditor)
- Singing (not mine, but advice from another sedditor)
I can get my state really high by doing this type of stuff, but I noticed that my state was fairly fragile as well. For example, it would only take a couple of bad approaches, and I would become a wallflower for the rest of the night. Edit: Don't get me wrong. This approach works.
Second approach: A way I've managed lately to get into an unbreakable state is by improving my life overall. These are obvious, but I think worth stating:
Sleeping enough. Sometimes I get sleep deprived over the work week. It's essential for me to catch up on the weekends. My body and mind function much better when it's well rested. Testosterone levels are higher if one has enough sleep. Higher testosterone makes guys feel great.
Eating well. I try to eat tons of raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, take my vitamins, and don't over/under-eat. Drinking too much alcohol is bad for a person's health and also kills testosterone levels.
Exercising. I do whatever I'm in the mood for daily, as long as it makes me sweat. I usually try to spike my heart rate at least once as well as do compound weight lifting.
Being productive. I strive to do my work and do it well. I want to ensure that I can be proud of the things I accomplished during the day/week. I want to earn the right to go out, and not go out to forget about work.
Dealing with other the problems (most important one for me). Maybe I got into a fight with a friend, or a loved one is sick, or maybe I wasn't as productive as I hoped I would be. Sometimes my problems can be as simple as having to do a ton of errands or cleaning my pad. Before I go out, I try to resolve as many problems as I can, but I might not be able to fix things right away. In that case, I take some time to think about my problems, why they are bothering me, and make an action plan for how I will resolve them or deal with them. Writing it out helps more than just thinking about it.
Do something something for others and do something fun. My greatest fear in life is growing up to be a bad person. My second greatest fear in life is living with regret. I try to keep my life active with community volunteering and music. This helps me keep my life fun, wholesome, and full of new experiences. It stops me from getting absorbed with work or anything else. There are many ways to help society and do something fun for oneself.
If I do the things listed above, my "state" and my normal presence are one and the same. Getting into state isn't necessary, because I'm already in state, all the time. I walk with my head high, shoulders relaxed, and a smile on my face the entire day. I can approach anyone at anytime, and if I get blown out, it's not a big deal. I know at any point I can go home to my pad, be happy that I have my problems in my life under control, have a great night's rest, wake up, eat a nice breakfast, hit the gym, do my work and extracurricular activities, and go at it again. My game and entire life keep improving together and not at each other's expense. The state I get, is a very natural one. It's like the state everyone ought to be in, but so few are. Instead of me transforming into something, I'm just removing all the baggage and revealing my true, natural self.
On a slightly related note, it's a wonderful feeling to wake up and realize today is better than yesterday and the day before, but one has to work hard and consistently for this. People let themselves go far too often by getting fat, chronically tired, getting into debt, getting oneitis, losing touch with their friends, losing their meaning of life or their spirituality, letting work define them, etc. They let life wear them down day by day. A lot people tell me that life is over when you turn 30. I retort that for me, life has always gotten better as I've grown older, and I can't wait for what the future holds.
TLDR: You can snap yourself into thinking you're awesome, or you can work hard at being awesome. Both ways work, but I believe the latter way is superior.
