I (23M) took a girl (19 F) on a first date this past weekend, we got some pizza, hung out in a park, and then went back to my house to play wii and watch tv for a while before some (mutual) friends came over.

I thought the date was going well, she was laughing a lot and sharing some personal stuff about herself. During the tv watching portion of the date, we were sitting next to each other on the couch, and I put my arm around her. No resistance, in fact she moved her body closer to mine. A few minutes passed and then I kissed her. Once again, no resistance, she kissed me back. In my mind at this point I'm thinking "Sweet, this is going well!"

A little bit later, I kiss her again. Afterwards, she then starts acting a little weird, getting a little further from me. I think "hmmm that's strange, but she probably is just playing games/ trying not be seem easy." She then says something like, "Sorry, I just feel a little weird because I haven't kissed anyone in a while." (Based on prior conversation, it couldn't have been more than about a month or two.)

Then our friends came over and we all hung out for a while but there was no more romantic interaction between us. A few days pass and I text her. After the normal formalities are exchanged, I ask her if she is going to be in town anytime soon. (She spends most of her time about 2 hours away at her moms, but visits her dad who lives a lot closer to my house occasionally.) She doesn't respond for about 4 hours, so I text her "I'll take that as a "no." Have a great night. Take care." About an hour later, she responds with "Hey, I think you are a great guy and a good friend but honestly it made me uncomfortable when you kept trying to kiss me because I don't know you and it made me feel disrespected that you would do that the first time we hung out."

A lot of what I have been reading seems to recommend not waiting around to start getting a little physical so as to avoid the dreaded "friend zone." But now I'm wondering if on the first date the best thing to do is play it cool and not kiss/ try to kiss... I think the girl's age might be a factor, maybe with younger girls it's better to take it slow.

But for some reason, I am taking this one to heart a little too much. From my perspective, I didn't just try to kiss her, she kissed me back. Also, we had hung out before, just with other people as well. Also, she is not totally inexperienced, she has had boyfriends before. And I have kissed my fair share of girls in the past, and I didn't slobber on her or do anything weird....

Anyways, any critiques or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not trying to win this particular girl back, but I would like to know what to change about my game moving forward.

TL, DR: Kissed a girl on a first date that I thought was going well. Later, she tells me that it made her feel uncomfortable and disrespected, and throws me in the friend zone.

UPDATE

Thanks to everyone for their constructive criticism and input on this! Today I got a little intel from a mutual friend on the situation with this particular girl that might shed a little more light on the subject... Apparently her best friend has a huge crush on me, and it appears that the best friend character assassinated me and slut-shamed the girl I kissed in an effort to make sure that if I'm not hooking up with anyone if it is not her. Unfortunately, she is fat and also psycho so I don't think I will do that anytime soon. Looks like I just need to move on to a different group of girls... But it's good to know that kissing on the first date isn't a bad idea.
