My whole take on this, through various articles/posts and just my own experience, is that generally dudes are quick to toss out the "You're attractive/you're pretty/you're good looking" shit super quick thinking that it'll win a girl over or get her to like him more.
Realistically, if she's attractive she's both heard it a thousand times before and she probably already knows she's attractive.
I always complement women on various other aspects, both being honest and not taking the easy "You're hot" approach.
Of course if she's taken a lot of time to do her hair/make up and wear something really nice for you, naturally that warrants a "You look very beautiful" because she put effort and time in to it.

Women love to be desired by attractive men.
Generally, on the street, when you are meeting girls in public, you don't want tell women that.... unless is it very congruent with your feelings.
And that's where, IMO, ZP's magic lies. He's a very sensual person anyways, so him saying that is very congruent with his personality and sub-communication.
If anyone has a pdf of that book, can you pm plz..

On the street, you absolutely go direct. It creates the sorely needed context for a conversation.
[–]plowzedong 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I didnt say you shouldnt go direct

Direct =/= telling a girl she is pretty
[–]readonlyuser 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is turning into a semantics debate. Direct means a direct SOI (Statement of Interest). It doesn't have to be 'you're pretty' verbatim, although that is Direct, but something along those lines that demonstrates you are interested in her.

It's not that it is or isn't effective, because it is both.
It can have a negative effect on one interaction and a positive one in a different interaction.
I don't tell women they're pretty, because it's useless information and the success rate of it is: Maybe.
[–]weallwantsomethink 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
As an opener or in general?
I mean. It seems highly effective later on to escalate and to let her know ypu are sexually interested.
[–]ImJustSo 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I only use it as a sign of affection, so yes, later on. If I'd touch/kiss a woman, then I'd also tell them I think they're attractive. At that point, they want those things from me, and I've decided I'm willing to give them my affection.

Nothing wrong with telling a woman she's pretty, because they obsess over wanting to feel pretty nearly every day of their lives. The trick is to say it properly and not make it sound cringey or creepy. Oh and make sure you're good looking.
[–]isthisathrowaway19 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
lmao no we dont. (maybe some do but i would say most of us have more important goals than "looking pretty")
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Most women I know put a huge amount of time into putting on makeup and shopping for clothes.
[–]isthisathrowaway19 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
ok good for them. thats their prerogative. but most women in the world dont have that as their main goal. Most of us are out here trying to feed our families, or save patients on the operating table, or educate children, or safely land planes, or write perfect code, or a million other things. we are people with jobs and lives and hobbies aside from looking pretty for y'all.
[–]innergamedude 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Here's the problem with "you're pretty": people are really incredibly fucking obnoxiously repetitive and uncreative. If you have any notable external traits (e.g. being tall, having green hair, missing an arm), that is all you'll hear about strangers. Maybe you recall in Garden State when Zach Braff's character goes home and everyone he runs into is trying to give him some "great ideas for a movie", same idea.
If you're just one more stranger saying the same shit to her because she's pretty, you're putting her off more than if you didn't talk to her at all. And on the side, you're also one more dude who feels entitled to her body because she exists.
Talk to her and say something to her she hasn't heard. Notice something about her no one else has.
[–]Xanarxses 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
There's two ways to this. Going indirect or making up some bullshit. Most girls simply don't have anything that sets them apart from other people aside from how hot, sexy or pretty they are. They all wear the same clothing, they all have the same hairstyles and on and on. Women and men too, suffer from this quite a lot. Everyone just looks pretty much identical so there isn't anything to point out that's actually there.
Sure you can bullshit her and say that her style is really unique when it really isn't and she'd look like every other chick walking down the street if her ass didn't look so good and her face weren't so beautiful.
Or do you intend to go on and on about how uniquely tilted and spaced her eyes are and how that's something you find really attractive? Sounds like bullshit and smells like it too.

It's fine if you want to operate on these assumptions, but given how the human mind has heuristics that substitute a simplified model for what is actually reality, I'm going to have to disagree that it is actual reality. And even if the distinctions are unimportant to you, they are often an important part of identity to her. And being mindful enough to notice distinctions is an attractive trait.
Most women spend about an hour a day on their appearance: eye shadow, eye liner, foundation, make up, lipstick, mascara, jewelry/rings, hair conditioner, blow dry, and leave-in product, and then we get into clothes: how does a woman negotiate the balance between being feminine and seeming slutty? Between tastefully being attractive and being an attention-grabbing whore? I've noticed I'm pretty snobby about the way a woman comports herself and what's attractive to me.
But maybe your approach doesn't involve making the woman feel special, so maybe all my statements about finding her speciality aren't applicable to you. Fine, I don't judge either way, but at the end the day when we get back to the topic at hand, does calling a girl "pretty" actually help you?

Yeah and it goes the same for pretty much all of them. Yeah one will use one product over another but who gives a shit what conditioner she used.

Women nowadays want to be men. They dress like shit. You know femininity is sinking in the toilet when chicks in their 20s are wearing mom jeans. It's painful how poorly they dress.
But maybe your approach doesn't involve making the woman feel special
Because she isn't special. Just because she spends an hour every day getting ready to take out the garbage. Doesn't mean anything. It'd be like every dude out there spends an hour to style his undercut fade. It's still a generic, uncreative and ridiculously ugly hairstyle. He's not special. He shares that cut with millions of other dudes that have no taste.
does calling a girl "pretty" actually help you?
Probably helps more than sitting there, trying to figure out what's her "thing" when she looks like she's mass produced.

Use compliments like salt; sparingly and only when necessary...
[–]MrRapper123 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But I love salt. It's so dium great.

Some pickup coaches will say this is exactly what you should be doing, and some will say that it's the absolute epitome of 'bad game'
That's the pickup industry for ya!
I guess the answer is to experiment with different stuff and see what works for you personally

If a woman is genuinely beautiful and dresses/presents herself well, the only points you gain by telling her she’s beautiful is that she sees your confidence. The actual comment on her beauty means nothing to her cause she’s heard it 1000x before.
But, you can show your confidence without doing that. If you walk up to her and say something like “hey I like you”, that’s probably more meaningful to her than hearing she’s beautiful.
Telling a woman she’s beautiful will never gain you any headway unless she is either already interested in you, or she actually is not beautiful and no one ever says it to her. It can hurt you by coming off as a very generic compliment that just kinda goes in one ear and out the other.
Generally though, the only women who will not at least mildly appreciate that kind of compliment are the bitchy ones, who you actually have to game in order to have a chance with.

Nothing wrong with telling a woman she's pretty. Matters who's saying it, who they are saying it to and what they mean when they say it.

If being man-to-woman is something you struggle with, then using direct compliments can help you get over that sticking point.
But if you're comfortable with being man-to-woman, there's no need to use direct compliments, they put on a lot of pressure which can lead a girl to look for an excuse to get out of the interaction. Plus, direct compliments can get you categorized as "thirsty guy who's trying to get in my pants" which isn't ideal.
[–]LingeringGnome 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Specificity is okay. "You have a really perky ass" or "your eyes are wild". "your hair is so long...awesome".
Generic is bad. "You are so hot." You're beautiful". "you're cute". Gorgeous women have heard that shit their entire lives. It's boring and lazy.
[–]Jackieoo00 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women want to feel valued. Being beautiful is definitely a valuable thing so its ok to appreciate that about her. What women are afraid of is a guy they cant trust. Many men can have success with women by simply decieving them and a lot of guys do. Women are simply trying to detect those types of guys and protect themselves from them. If a guy is overly fixative on physicality during inapropriate times it is a sign of deception. A man who makes her feel comfortable and touches her at apropriats times is a guy she has the potential to bond with sexually.

I'd say it's not about what you say. It is about what you communicate.
Usually, you want to communicate that you are attracted to her and that you have no shame to admit this fact to yourself and her.
What is the best way to communicate that facts depends on dozens of factors. Depending on what type of person she or you are and where and when you are this can mean to tell her "you are beautiful and i want to get to know you better" or "I wanna fuck your brain out right now". Both sentences can communicate the same thing depending on the circumstances.
There is a chapter in Mark Manson's Models where he writes about this topic and takes a friend as an example who would tell woman he "would like to pee down their butthole" or sth like this...Appearently said friend was batshitcrazy and his line worked pretty good on crazy woman.

You should absolutely compliment a girl. Honestly no matter how many times you hear a compliment, if you feel it's coming from a genuine place, it will be nice to hear. BUT DO NOT shower her with compliments. This will come across as needy and will cause all of your compliments to lose their meaning and value. The BEST way I found to balance compliments is to do push/pull because this keeps the girl guessing whether or not you are into her even though she already knows you are. I wrote a post on this that might clear it up for you a little https://mysimpleconfidence.com/how-to-flirt-with-girls-the-best-technique-you-can-learn. I'm with this sentiment, I compliment but I absolutely confuse the shit out of her by push pull. I'm sarcastic and ball bust girls all the time, so they know I'm not a mushy push over. This then allows me to throw in compliments that look sincere and aren't some... Oh hey you're so hot I love you blah blah.
I keep my compliments specific, never be general and say you're so pretty. No try this... I love what you did with your hair did you just get it done it looks great (insert girl blushing) girls love compliments on stuff they personally did to make themselves pretty. Why do you think girls compliment other girls on their clothes and shoes all the time, because other girls know how much time they spend thinking and working on that stuff. GUYS SHOULD DO THE SAME. Here's another one you NEVER HEAR from guys, wow I love those shoes where did you get them? She says blah blah, then you say Yea they really compliment your outfit.
Anyway other guys are right here it's not what you say it's how you say it. Attractive guys can get away with more and unattractive guys have to be super sharp on what and how they say it. Sincerity is key too, it goes along way with women and they hate fake nice comments because they hear them all the time

Why don't you go out there and try it? You'll find out soon enough if that strategy works
