Since your friends are normally good guys, I'm going to make a wild guess as to why they turn into dicks in PUA situations. I could be wildy off the mark, so don't be offended if this doesn't sound like you.

Do they know you are into PUA? Do talk about it often? Does your talk make it sound like this is the best way to pick up women? Could your talking be perceived as you putting yourself above them? Did you try to convince your friends to get into it? Did they think it sounded super forced? It sounds like your friends are irritated by your PUA ways and are subtly telling you to lay off (or at least entertaining themselves why you do it). In those situations, bombing your efforts would be very tempting.

Wow this is upsetting. They aren't being friends... in fact, they aren't even being MEN. Maybe have a discussion with them that you would help them in these situations so they should do the same for you.. but if they're too immature for that, just keep them at a distance and find other people to hang out with. I've had complete strangers be my wingman... I can't imagine another guy, supposedly a friend, break such a code... they deserve prison time lol.

I agree with another comment, they are not real friends if they are jealous at you for having the balls to interact with women. But anyways. I usually don't associate with people like that (if they are not friends already), if they display this behavior once, they're out. In rare cases a "friend" has tried that, and the first time I was just letting it slip, but the second time I did the following. I said with a strong, easily audible and calm voice, and a look on my face showing pity for him, like a father is talking to his 10 year old son who did something really dumb: "boy..." putting my hand on his shoulder, looking into his eyes with a smile, "... why do you feel the need to tear someone down just to feel better than him? Do you really think you need this?". He immediately blushed, looked around like a child who got caught lying, and started stammering with a really weak and quiet voice.. "... pulling people down... I am big... look ... I am big... " giggling nervous.

Well, that was it for him, he got so ashamed, he never did that again, and we never spoke about it again. The clue is to play the father frame. This hits most people unprepared, and they behave like they had when they were little children.

Recently I had something similar with a work colleague, he made a really dumb joke in front of our new hot female colleague, who was very obviously more interested in listening to me than him (he was jealous lol) at my expense. This time I just looked at him the same way I did with my friend, and he blushed so hard, it was hilarious. After that he was getting pretty quiet.

Again, here it was just holding my frame, and the fact that he wanted to look cool in front of our colleague, and when he realized how it didn't faze me, and she wasn't laughing either it was getting very uncomfortable for him.

Hey dude, I feel ya and have been there. I have literally had to move out of shared living spaces and fire my social circle because of this. It was awful and I still have lingering PTSD over it, especially given that I don't understand the behavior. I would never do such a thing myself.

My advice is the following. Keep your sex and social lives seperate.

For example, I live in an urban environment. I had a local bar/restaurant that was designated "The Clubhouse" and had a strict "No Girls Allowed" policy. All my friends and I hung out there and I never brought a girl over. In fact, most of my social circle have never met any of my girlfriends. I take them to other parts of the city.

It's common to tear down other guys when girls are around and alcohol is involved, so I solved this problem by just rearranging my social life so that didn't happen. Problem solved and really wish I figured it out earlier.

You need to be more proactive. From what you described, you are reacting to their actions. Take more actions than them and be one step ahead.

This might be counterintuitive, but if you are the one to set the tone of how communication goes in your group, then you can hype your friends up. This way you will be on top, because you will seem like the one that has nothing to loose. Them being negative in this context will seem low status.

But it's definitely a good idea to learn amog. Just to be aware how this interactions go when they happen, bounce up from them and lead the group the other (positive) way.

Don't think about this with alfa/beta mindset. It's in fact more about who's higher status, them being negative is low. They are doing this because they are desperately trying to impress girls that are around you.

Some people told you to ditch them. True, they are low quality friends, but this doesn't mean that you will do better in next group of guys.

Don't ditch this group, practice on them, then ditch them and make sure to set up boundaries and expectations right from the start when you make new friends.

I find it's best to have different groups of people to hang out with in different situations. Thought it's different for everyone. Sometimes you want that group of wild party friends, then you want that super nerdy group, then you want the chill pua's to talk game with.

This might mean they're uncomfortable with this situation and don't want to change the status quo in your relationships. If you find new friends that specifically are interested in PUA stuff you will lighten the load on everyone.

Just like your PUA friends may not be into nerdy stuff and will tear that down.
