Just got served for divorce, I have no attorney and my case before the judge is this Thursday, Aug 1.

Get a good lawyer and do your best to slow the pace down on Thursday so you aren’t reeling from the punch in the throat you just got. She’s been planning this for a LONG time. She has a plan, and an attorney. Slow it down, regroup, and put a plan together so you’re not punching off your back foot.

There should be some verbiage in the divorce petition stating you should respond by x days. It’s usually 30 days from the date of service. It’s also really strange to schedule a hearing so close to the date you were served. If you dodged being served for a week the hearing would’ve been cancelled since you wouldn’t have been served.

There should be no alimony unless you were married for over 10 years in TX. Even then,she has a job (your business) and I’m assuming half the earnings are hers so neither of you make more than each other. I’m not a lawyer but I don’t see a case for alimony in TX. I guess you could counter and ask for alimony in your response too since she thinks she deserves alimony just because she was married to you.

Start calling up attorneys Monday morning and retain one before Aug 1 to be safe. Your attorney will probably get the temporary order hearing pushed back. Seems like your STBXW is wasting the court’s time scheduling the hearing so close to the date you were served.

Don’t rush getting a lawyer. Everything said here is true; show up to the hearing and explain your side. It’ll get pushed back. Take the time you need to get a good lawyer.

If you can't find a lawyer by Thurs, go to the hearing and tell the judge you haven't been able to secure a lawyer. He'll set another hearing date in a few weeks or more.

Kind of a short turn around between service and court date. There is time to find a lawyer, but if you need more time, attend the hearing on 8/1 and request a continuance. Tell them you need time to find representation.

Go get a lawyer. Take out a new credit card and use it if you have to or borrow money from a relative.

Divorce moves VERY VERY SLOW you got plenty of time, meet with a few lawyers in your area and pick one and get your response in and they'll guide you
