I'm hardly surprised the male loneliness epidemic had become appropriated to say we should stop making issues gendered.

Well considering this, I have a made a discussion here about possible solutions to solving Male Loneliness. While the majority the replies were solid and centered around the topic, there were at least a few people commenting and saying there is no evidence by posting articles and "stats" to say there is no Male Loneliness epidemic. I have often wondered why they are trying to rebrand this one. It's quite obvious there is enough evidence to suggest Male Loneliness is a real thing and a growing problem and yet many still want to invalidate the issue.

Even when Feminists are willing acknowledge the issue exists, they too also want it to not be gendered. I swear, the Male Loneliness epidemic was one of the few issues that was crucial to results of the 2024 US presidential election. If feels like everytime the media wants to try to acknowledge that men have some legitimate issues worth addressing at the present moment, they often fumble the whole point. It really does feel like we can go 1 step forward and somehow still go 2 steps back.

The stats are clear, it is men who are suffering from both social and sexual loneliness. I am going to break a huge taboo, by saying they are linked. Alas it is impossible for the mainstream media to process that because they see everything through the lens of feminism. A lens which sees men as privileged.

The first response was to paint lonely men are the modern equivalent of the undeserving poor. Evil potential rapists and sexists who deserve to rot alone. That of course was always a load of non-sense. So now they try a new tactic, paint it as a non-gendered problem, which is total bullsh*t.

Socially and sexually women live on the easy setting. It is baked into how human sexuality works. Heterosexual guys compete for the attention of limited pool of fertile women. Which means women don't have to meet the same standards men do to be accepted sexually and socially.

Alas that truth is forbidden.

The term actually came from a May 2023 Surgeon General Report / warning about a general epidemic of loneliness and isolation. It linked social isolation to some pretty severe health risks like heart disease. The WHO followed in November of the same year with a commission to study the problem. It was some time after the Surgeon General's warning that we started to see more attention on strategies to address how it's manifesting in men specifically.

I think you're overreacting tbh. I do think that the phenomenon of men's issues being presented as gender neutral while women's issues are given special gendered attention is real, but I don't think the loneliness epidemic is a good example of it. Women experience this too, everyone does, and things like elderly age, being LGBT or being an immigrant are better predictors of suffering from loneliness than gender is. Gender does play a role in how loneliness plays out in practice and how it manifests itself, but there isn't really a "male loneliness epidemic", just a general one. The data just doesn't really support the notion of a male specific problem when it comes to this issue.
