I’m looking for general insight into a certain dynamic I think a lot of people encounter.

Sometimes you meet someone who clearly wants closeness — they talk a lot, open up, get physically intimate, seek your attention — but at the same time they keep emotional walls firmly in place. They say they’re not looking for anything serious, or that they’ve been hurt before, yet they keep pulling you back into something that feels way more personal than a casual thing.

It’s like they invite intimacy and push it away in the same breath.

So here’s the general question:

What actually works with someone like this? Not manipulation, but seduction in the sense of creating trust, safety, and attraction so they stop sabotaging their own interest. How do you help someone lower their defenses without overwhelming them or triggering their fears?

Curious to hear strategies that have worked for people who’ve dealt with emotionally cautious partners who still clearly want the connection.

(I’m a woman looking for advice from women or men within the context of heterosexual dating.)
