Men's challenge = Becoming selectable

Women's challenge = Selecting well

Probably based on a mix of evolutionary pressure from women's childbearing, competition between men, and the fact that both parents do ideally help take care of the kids. Mixed with the effects of culture and environment.

In fact, even in cultures where men "dress up" more than the women (like Papua New Guinea, where men historically wear decorative clothing/makeup and dance while women evaluate them), it's still a matter of men becoming selectable and women selecting well.

Pain doesn't automatically imply injustice, but wishing for better choices is deeply human.
