I originally planned to file for an absolute divorce online today, but I’ve decided to prioritize filing for custody first. While I would prefer an attorney, I don't qualify for indigent or pro bono services, and my debt-to-income ratio prevents me from using credit. I could likely afford a lawyer in 12 months, but I don't want to wait that long or sacrifice time with my children to work more overtime.

My request for time off in May was denied, so I plan to get the paperwork completed tomorrow. I’ll get it notarized either tomorrow or next week, with the goal of filing in two weeks. I then plan to file for absolute divorce in June. The process seems lengthy—finding a notary, visiting the courthouse, and navigating offices without a phone—but the paperwork itself seems manageable.

I'd love to hear from others who have navigated this alone.
