Lots of girls give out numbers just to be polite. In her head, she's thinking it's no big deal to get some texts or sign up a new orbiter.

That's why I never thought it was a big deal for pickup artists to get phone numbers. That's a low accomplishment.

The truth is, if you get a halfway decent conversation with a girl, she'll almost always give you her number.

But whether she go out with you is a whole different matter.

A few things to improve your odds:

Extend your interactions longer. Go for a walk or grab coffee together. That’s what we call an insta-date. Ideally an interaction should be at least 10 minutes, but if it is going well extend it as long as you can.
How you ask for the number matters. If you just ask for a number without a reason, she will see that as low value needy behavior. Instead, seed a potential date idea first, like sushi. “Do you like sushi btw?” Talk about sushi for a bit without inviting her. Change the topic one or two more times. Then revisit date later as if the idea just struck you out of nowhere: “ You know what, let’s grab sushi sometime”.
Your texting should be some vibing and not just going straight for the date. You might do better by calling as you will appear more confident. Keep calls to less than 15 minutes.

I went through this same thing when I was your age. (This was the late 1970s - early 1980s. The Disco era. Smartphones & such didn’t exist yet.) I got very pissed off at myself one night for driving home — alone — with a bunch of phone numbers in my pocket.

This was my awakening. I quit asking for phone numbers. The following weekend, I asked the gals to meet me for breakfast, for lunch, …. a few times I got right to the point and asked, “Wanna fuck?”

My luck changed immediately. More oft than not, I got laid. Sometimes that night, sometimes the next day. But I started getting laid.

My advice to you: Quit asking for phone numbers. Ask for what you really want.

Hard to say. You would need to paint a broader picter of how you actually do it. But I do see a few things you could look into. First of all, for women, the most important aspect of dating are emotions. She gave you number, because she felt like and she didn't go a date with you, because she didn't feel like to. You probably take too long to ask her out and her emotions fade away. Try meeting with her as soon as possible. The next day after the approach for example.

Alternatively, the problem may be with how you invite her: "Let's grab a coffee" sounds boring to me. I always try to make it based on the previous topics so that it natural. Also it should be personalized, intriguing and value oriented. For example:

"Let me take you out. I will show you...."

"You know. I have a feeling you're gonna like this place."

"Oh you're not beating me in xxxx. Really? Wanna bet?"

"Haha I would love to see you do that in real life."

Because you need to approach them with intention of dating. This way they understand what you want. Dont be a clown in their eyes. Just say i liked you and i need your number
