Wife told me she wants a divorce. We have 2 kids 2 & 4. I’m not mad, it’s a bit relieving actually, the knowing part. Went to couples therapy, both seeing therapists separately.

We agree the kids well-being comes first.

Here’s my dilemma; we don’t own the home we live in, it technically belongs to my grandmother and we rent it for a song. The house is mine in all but name to avoid massive taxes ect. it belonged to my dad and my grandparents bought it as a rental when he passed intending it to go to me.

We’ve lived here 6 years together and we’ve made it a home for kids. Playground in the back, dedicated play room, murals on their walls. Can walk to daycare and school. Nice suburban neighborhood.

As of now, my wife will be moving out, we’re in a hcol area and she’d only be able to get a 2-bedroom most likely.

I acknowledge I am the reason we’re finally actually divorcing, I’ve got emotional stability issues that I’m working on but there’s a long way to go. We’re going to start with a 70/30 split which I agree with, she is a better parent and has been a sahm until the beginning of this year so she’s the main caregiver.

I don’t know what to do, my heart says I should move out but my gut says that would either be foolish financially or would just be super awkward as I’d essentially be her landlord.

Thoughts?

On mobile and a bit emotional, feel free to ask for clarification.
